My engine is a 94 gsr with itr pistons and supertech flat valve,dual spring and ti retainer. It was rebuilt last summer. The other day while trying to do a burn out my car stalled and shut off. I had to start it up 3 times before it actually started. Today while driving normal a ticking started to occur, it seems like its coming in at about 3000rpm, and at idol it ticks then stops for a few rounds of cam turning then ticks again and stops for a few cam turns....and repeats. The ticks sounds like its coming from the head. Any idea on why it would stall during my stupid burn out? Any idea why its ticking?

Maybe its time to adjust your valves or just tighten them up. its probably valve tapping.

yeah your timing belt probably skipped a tooth(not a rare incident with these cars) and your pistons are beating the **** out of your money spent valves

My money would be on an exhaust leak on the manifold, those can sound real nasty. Or you have some bad valve lash.

Thanks alot guys, I hope my pistons aren't beating on the valves. I'm going to try to get my valves adjusted this weakend and see how it goes from there. Can a bad injector cause this too? Once again thanks guys....HT

i had that before my rod snapped and blew out the front of my block

Yea valve lash... check your belt too cause unless you just stalled it, your engine stopping immediately doesn't sound good.

DAMN! thats exactly what happened today. I was on my way to school and my engine pretty much seized on me. I set it to neutral(out of gear) and I was still able to tell that the engine seized because I felt a front end lock. Need help. I got it towed home, so far I had removed my timing belt, camshafts and I was still unable to rotate the pistons. Any idea of what it could be?

locked engine. drop your oil pan and look for a lot of metal shavings from a fail rod bearing or broken rod.

I have also seen the distributor fail and lock up the entire motor. You could pull the dist and see if you can turn the engine over by hand. However my bet with what you were doing to the engine durring the burn out i would be a bearng failure

did your friends like the burn out? your car just stalling doesnt sound good. sounds like you broke something. could be a bent valve, that would cause it to stick and tick like you are talking about.

I think that my head is okay, I had taken apart the head completely from the block. From the looks of it piston 2,3 are up and 1,4 are close to the bottom. The head looked fine, I did try to turn my pistons over with the pulley nut on(turning the engine counter clockwise) but the block seems seized up still. Tomorow I will be removing my oil pan as some of you had suggested and hopefull I only have sprung my rod bearings. What are other possibitly I can check for interms of a seized engine? Can a oil pump, clutch, flywheel, or starter cause the block to seize up too? I really need some advice because I know that alot of people here on HT have more knowledge then me when it comes down to working on cars, and I want to have at least a little knowledge of what to look for after dropping the oil pan, and if the bearings turned out ok. Thanks alot guys I really aperciate the helpful feedbacks, it has led me to some really good steps.

Alright, it looks like I'm just going to be getting a b20b long block. My plans are putting my gs-r head on this b20b block. I have a few questions for you guys. What is the difference between a b20b with a long intake manifold and a b20 with a short intake manifold? Will I have some good whp with stock b20b block and a gs-r head?

thats the reason that let me to his timing belt jump a tooth or so leadinding to ticking valves agains pistons


its not the first time this happened to hundreds of people this way

or when doing a burnout. . you f*cked up a bearing????
