Default Ticket for intake?

I don't know if it is real or not but i have a friend that said that he got a ticket for having a cold air intake in California. He has to go to an inspection to make sure that he puts the stock intake back on. Do you guys think it is real or a hoax?

real, because i got a ticket for it.
short story:
cop pulled me over,
gave ticket,
tried to fight in court,
got told to go to ref anyway,
ref said all good because the carb numbers were good

it's real. just tell him to put the factory airbox back in, take it to the local police department, get it signed off, pay the court fee and finally put the cai back in

The intake was an AEM cold air intake for an ek. I didnt' see any numbers but i still don't know why he would receive a ticket... what other modifications do they give tickets for?

yep. If it isn't OEM its illegal... even if in some way, it made the car more safe and more emissions controlled.

its not like cali gives tickets like crazy, its if you do something stupid then they will pull you over. i havent gotten a ticket for no front plates or being low. even when i was next to a cop when i went open headers for a night, he didnt do anything about it. maybe just luck but not to strict

The reality is Socal isn't that bad... I've had my car for 2 years and the only reason I got pulled over was for expired registration. I've never been hassled about anything. I really believe that most of the time (not all the time) people here get hassled because they are doing something dumb. Don't draw attention to yourself and you won't get bothered.

Even here in MD its pretty strict, I have a dropped 97 Coupe with HID, I/H/E, Tint, CF Hood and my front tag is by the window not on the bumper but my friend has a completely stock Lude 1993 and was pulled over because he had "Cool Blue's" but he was going faster than me but then was given a Fix It Ticket all though I have some bright *** HID in stock housing ( I know its ghetto)

our smog laws are strict but if you do things correctly and act like an adult while you drive you should have no problem. (like me)

i have a semi built b16. that has been BAR'd (BAR'd before the build) a CARB approved header and a stock looking intake and other visual mods that are either internal or if they are external they are painted flat black.

i have gauges in my car where the radio was and have a radio block off plate to hid them. just keep it clean and dont give them a reason to pull you over or give you a ticket

I dont act like a fool in my car... I still get pulled over. Maybe its because I am almost 21, but look 16 and they think I am some stupid kid.

I still cant believe the last cop that got me said my HT stickers made him suspicious.
