I got a ticket last night for going 102 mph. There were two other cars in my general vicinity. It was 3:30 AM and i was driving from LA to SD. I don't think i was going that speed and i was wondering what experience you guys have with tickets for going over 100. Is the judge likely to put it down a little so i dont get 2 points on my driving record for going over 100? Can you go to traffic school for something like this and if so, does my insurance find about it? I got a speeding ticket a little less than a year ago (about 11 months ago) and i went to traffic school. Is it true that my insurance will see my ticket and the speed that i was going? What kind of increase in car insurance premium have you guys experienced for this and how long did it take to come back down to normal?

From what I understand, anything over 100 is reckless driving. I'm not sure the validity do it seeing as not that many people are aware of it...but I'd just get ready for the worst.

The best thing to do would be to fight the ticket. The worst thing that can happen is the cop shows up. And at that point, you can tell them how much of a dumb *** you were and that you really really want to take traffic school. That's what I would do.

I think i was going slightly under 100 and that makes a big difference. It isn't reckless driving. THat's what the cop said to me. He said it's a normal traffic fine, but going over 100 in CA gives you 2 points which is really bad.

isnt anything over 100 mph jail time??? i know in tx it is..you can get away w/ it if they didnt show you the radar gun w/ the recorded mph on it thats how i got off one of my speeding tickets...maybe that will help

You can try to fight it. I went with my homie when he got a ticket for 120 in a 50.

The police officer was there. He was attending to a line of people he gave speeding tickets.

We sat there as he read of the classes he had attended, equipment he was certified to use, the fact that he checked his equipment at the start of the shift and that he was trained to clock cars by sight.

Hope that he doesn't show.

In fairfax county 1 of my friends got 3 months for doing 120, another girl i know got 1 week for doing 86 in a 55. **** over 80 is wreckless. in va. Another kid i know got 1 month for doing 100. But i dont know how cali is, if its harsh or not, i know fairfax county is though.

If he was using a radar gun then you have a good chance of fighting it because a radar gun has to be calibrated to give correct reading. The last time I went to court some lady won her case because the radar gun was not calibrated recently. Fight it and take your chances.

Why would they lower the speed limit? That doesnt make any sense? Do you mean lower the speed the ticket is for? If so, then Im pretty sure the answer is no. They do have a tendency to lower the fine though.

When a policeman in Norton, VA, "paced" me at a steady 45 mph through the city (so he said), I proved (by using city engineer data) that you couldn't go through all the lights at 45 by the way they were timed (i.e. one of them would have been red - the last two in the city, there were six in a row - no sensors - all timed).

I proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the policeman was full of ****. But, the engineering study showed that it was possible to go through at 35 mph (10 mph over the posted limit). I was found guilty of 35 in a 25.

Thought I would have walked, but noooooo. (I think I was going over 25 the last 2 lights, but not 45).

Summary: The judge can reduce the charge if there is reason to reject the originial charge but support a lesser charge.

100 MPH, not much you can do.

trying to fight it just wastes the courts time, tax payers money and most of the time you wind up with the MAX fine. instead of pleading guilty and taking a smaller fine.

and for the Idiots who think 100MPH is not wreckless come with me to a wreck that was involving a 100mph car. its great!

i got a ticket for doing 110 in a 65. The laws are different everywhere. I got my license suspended for 3 months because i was under 18. If i was over 18, it would have been suspended for only 1 week

Geeze....just a ticket and a fine? In Wisconsin 25 over is suspension of your license on the spot. I just got busted for 20 over (45 in a 25...damn construction...they had just lowered the speed limit the day before I got busted)...anywho...I showed up, they took two points off my ticket and reduced the fine to 130. Good luck.

Fortunately I've never had a ticket for going that fast, but I came pretty close the other night. I was heading home from work at like 3:00 in the morning and I decided to step on it a little bit, since there was no one else out on the road. Anyway, I came around a slight curve before a downhill grade and there were two cops sitting by the side of the road chatting to each other. Anyway, they clocked me at 91mph. The cop had me thinking "oh **** oh **** oh ****" when he asked me if i'd ever been to jail before. Long story short though, he was really nice, gave me only a verbal warning (wow, now that I look back on that, I was INCREDIBLY lucky), and told me to take it easy.

Anyway, in WA, 30 over is wreckless driving and is supposed to be an arrest on the spot deal. Dunno what the laws are in other places, but if you were going 102, I would be thanking higher powers above that you weren't arrested or had your license suspended.

i was racing in arlington texas at about midnight and i got pulled over and the other guy got away. we were doing about 80-90 in a 40 and it was a straight shot with no traffic at all. they arrested me and had my car impounded. i got out the next morning, $1000 cash bail, and they charged me with reckless endangerment. punishable up to 180 days in jail and 2000 fine. i have the best criminal lawyer in the area and he says he thinks he can get my case dismissed because it is should have been a traffic ticket, but pigs don't care. mine was a real dick. when he drove me to the jail, he was doing 65 in the same 40 zone i was racing in and then ran a redlight. he told me i had to be an example that street racing was no longer going to be dealt with in arlington, everybody is cracking down. needless to say i am going to the track from now on. sold my car too. i'm 17

In North Carolina, over 15 mph is automatic ticket, over 25 mph is arrest. The arrest is officer discretion. The ticket is law. I think thats how it works.
