I'm having a problem with my car, and I'm not exactly sure what is causing it..

The wheel bearing on one of the front hubs has been making a humming sound for the past 2 or 3 weeks, and all of the sudden while trying to leave my neighborhood, the front end begins making a thumping sound.. It feels like one of my rims has a small lump in it.. I shut my engine off and coasted and the noise/vibration was still present.

could this be my wheel bearing finally giving out? how can I figure out which side is bad? I would replace both, but i'm hurting financially at the moment.

Yea, pretty much. Isnt much to get them replaced, any auto shop or place should be able to in less than 2 hours.

in two hours with a cost do it yourself and for the noise bring a friend for a ride see which side its on

advance auto parts rents the tool out and upon return you get your money back I used to work at one, its a great deal

i also have that problem but i also feel it pull to the right (were noise occurs) could it be the cv joints? does anyone know how exspensive that could be?

Well i know your humming sound is your bearings in the front hub are becoming rusty and pits start in the ball bearings themselves causing the actual hum going down the road my rear hub is the same way... as for the thumping noise take of your tire get the tool from advanced auto take apart the hub if all the bearings are in place with all ***** present repack your hubs put them back in if the humming still occurs you need new hub bearings and if the thumping still occurs its more than likely your cv joints.

so can it get worse ? well i guess i trying to ask how long can i go w/o fixing this before something catastrophic happens (i to have a very low budget)

mine was pulling to the right pretty bad earlier right before the thumping noise occured.. i'll be taking to all apart tomorrow

hey i work in an auto shop and we charge 209.99 thats installed with labor and part.and the cv axle isnt going to make it pull.if you lowered it that could pull could be a bad tire on the front of the car.even the alignement could be way off.

damn thats crump cuz i stay in cape too and i got my driver side wheel bearing done for 90 bucks installed at the place next to Tire Kingdom across from burger king on Del Prado....

Does your steering wheel jerk when it thumps?
And yes a bad cv joint can to cause it to pull to a side my mothers old van did it and it was because the joint had a crack in it and would flex when braking.

You did remove both rims and check for deformities or flat spots in the tires? I had that prob once too my interepid i bought of a guy and it would go down the road making a thump thump thump and turned out the passenger side tire in the inner side had rubber ripped off in a spot down to the steelbelt. If it isnt that im going to say its a bad cv joint or maybe one of your rims arent sitting completely flush to your hub/rotor.
