Default Throwing Engine Light....

Ok I am driving a bone stock 2000 si and i know this is a wide range question. but i was driving my car to work today and my check engine light came on, my motor isn't making any weird noises nor is the car acting up. so what can be the cause of this? cause i really dont wanna take it to the honda dealership and let them do something simple and charge me 500 dollars. but if there are any easy solutions to some others problems let me know the car has 75k miles. thanks

as long as its not flashing then your cats will be ok. if it is then take it to an authorized dealership or reputable shop

Try this first and see what the result is. You should be able to diagnose it this way yourself.

in the FAQ's its all about replacing parts, ECU codes, and swaps, but my motor is stock and i have done nothing to it. the only thing i have noticed in the past day is that when it sits for an hour or so and i start it, it will jump to about 1.5k idle and after i drive it for 10 minutes it will drop back to around 700rpms. so how can i diagnosis this myself from FAQ's?

Well you didnt look hard enough. So go to your car open up the passenger side door. Get on the ground and look up into right side of the kick panel. Take off the panel that covers your ECU. You should see a lil connecter with a lil plug that goes into it. The plug will have two wires connected to it. Pull the connector out and jump the plug with a small paper clip. Then turn your key to the on positon and wala you will get your code.

oh lol once you have the plug jumped and you turn the key to ON, the the CEL should flash for ya. Then to read it you can use this..... flash flash flash flash flash = code 20 the longer spaced flashes are the first part of the number and the shorter means the second part so two long flashes mean 2 and three short flashes means 3 so 23. here https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=682412

you know that one thing honda does now-a-days is when you use other fluids (i.e. oil, tranny fluid, etc...) typically the ecu recognizes that it hasnt been changed by "Honda", then the check engine light comes on till you do something to reset the ecu. It happened in my dad's brand new 03 civic ex.

yea i changed my oil 2k miles ago, it would be a little late for that. and plus with this jumper test i came out with 7 20 41 and 65 which none have to do with fluids.

First reset the ECU, unhook the battery and wait, or take out the radio back up fuse. Drive it around and see if it comes back on. It may take awhile for it to come back on. I would hope most of those are stored codes. I take it you do not have a Helms?

Well your O2 sensors can go bad, but at the same time? Same as the TPS, I think they were stored codes, but im not sure which ones. My freind has my helms right now or I would be lookin at it for you.
