throwing code 15: Ignition Output signal
My car has been getting this crazy idle problem lately where every once and a while my idle's rpms would shoot up to 1500 and just kinda pulse there. It wouldn't go down at all. Resetting my ecu would temporarily fix the problem. This time when I did it and I checked the code and it was a 15. This is on an obd2 car and the code sais it is an Ignition Output signal error. Any idea what this is? Maybe its something with my distributor? I know I'm in need for a tuneup. Like change the dizzy cap, rotor, coil, etc.

yea I know I need a tune up pretty bad. I'm guessing its something with my distributor like the coil. Right now I have some stock wires off of my friends civic. They didn't have that many miles on them so they should be alright for now and I had to throw in some slightly used plugs my friend had lying around at the Honda dealership because my old plugs got wet and got all messed up.

now that Its colder outside my car is doing this every chance it gets . It did it like 3 times yesterday and once on the way to school this morning. I am hopefully changing my plugs, wires, dizzy cap, and rotor today. I don't feel like spending the money on a coil unless I have to. If this tune up doesn't work, which I don't think it will, what should I do? Has anyone else had this problem. No one seems to have had this same problem.

I don't really think its that. My friend who is a mechanic at honda sais he doesn't thing it is gonna be the plugs, wires, dizzy cap, or rotor, but I need to replace these anyways because my motor has 99k and needs the 90k mile tune up. In reality the plugs and wires really shouldn't need to be changed though beacuse after the whole engine washing incident I replaced them with my friends old wires which didn't have too many miles on them and some plugs that my friend from honda had laying around. The plugs were only slightly used.

ok I just replaced plugs, wires, dizzy cap, and rotor. My car seems to run much smoother now and hopefully this will fix my problem. We shall see if it does or not.

Good luck man. Told ya it was from all of the engine washing.

Re: (SOHC_MShue)
ok so even after replacing that stuff my car did it again twice today. This is boggling my mind . My friend from honda suggested that maybe it is because the sensor for my power steering system that senses how much pressure is being pushed through the lines was unplugged when I removed the system. He sais it may be because water is getting into it or it is sensing that there isn't any pressure there and idling higher to compensate or whatever that sensor is for. Does this sound like it may be the problem? I guess I could try covering the sensor up with some tape? I also have all of those sensors from the ac system hanging there after removing it. What should I do about those? Do you guys just let them hang there?

cool...you're lucky, cause the same exact **** happend to me last month and no one was able to help me.
Open the dizzy, make sure the wires, and the plugs are secure on the ICM. The plugs on the terminals of the ICM developed some slack and from vibration, cause the rpm to jump around and stuff. If that looks good, check your coil with an ohm meter. I had the same engine code too
Yeah, when i pushed the car, sometimes the rpm needle goes to 6'oclock position when im really at 4krpm. and just fluctuates whenever i drive.

Yes, check the connections on the igniter. Pay particular attention to the yellow/green wire, it's the one that carries the output signal from the ECU. If it still does it, check that wire back to the ECU. If the wire is good, you probably have a bad igniter. BTW, spark plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor and coil cannot cause this code. (15)

thanx a lot guys! I'll check this as soon as I get a chance. I just replaced all that stuff because it really needed to be replaced anyways. My car is running a lot smoother now that I replaced them.
