Those with stock engines! How high does the temp. needle go?
I just noticed this on my back from Orlando to Savannah Sunday.
My temperature needle usually stays right under the halfway mark just covering the bottom of that little picture thing (can't even remember what the hell it is). I just know that once warmed up it would cover the bottom line that runs horizontal.
Well, going through Jacksonville I noticed the temp. gauge was WAY above that point. It was getting close to the end of the normal operating zone then it would back down. A few minutes later back up then down to the middle (normal zone I'm used to seeing).
I figured maybe it was the long drive, but yesterday while driving around town for about 45 minutes it was going back up and down every few minutes. I know the red is really what you need to look for, but just trying to see if this is normal for the ups and down of the gauge every few minutes.
Checked the coolant and I did had to add a little on the way back from O-town. The oil level is good.
Is all this normal?

how many miles are on the car?
could be water pump , is leakking....might want to do a t.belt and water pump change.
might be thermostat.
might just need a coolant flush

maybe the thermostat is sticking and opening up slower than it should. Try replacing it and seeing how it works afterwards. Might go ahead and flush the coolant while you're in there.

Mine is always about a fourth up from the bottom, way under half way.
You should check your engine coolant temp sensor, and look from a bad ground, if not then the temp indicator could be bad.

i changed my coolant this past summer to Honda Coolant; usually it'd stay in the middle line (i think theres three lines in the little picture) but after the change, the needle always is on the lowest line.
just curious, do any of you loosen the bleeding bolt on the block when changing coolant??

The car is about to hit 150k
I got it at 146k and changed out the coolant when I first got her.
I may look into fixing it, but then again I'm about to order my swap after the first of the year
