Default Thermostat trouble.

Hey fellas.I have a 94 Civic coupe 1.8 dohc non-vtec swapped.Ive been having nothing but trouble with my cars thermostat. If the car is parked the temperature hand will run up to below half, which is right and the car blows lots of heat. But when i start driving the temp hand drops down and the warm turns to colder. So i have a d15b7 thermostat there and compared them.Totally different.I went to my local napa and braught up the d15b7 thermostat and said"this is what i dont want".Mine was still in the car.

They have the same part number listed for the b18b1 WTF?? So me having high hopes and all i got it anyway, knowing it was different, put it in my car and the fitv went crazy!!Erratic idle to the max.So then i was flipping out.Took that back out and put in my old one"b18b1" and the fitv went nuts again.I was pissed. So i held the car on the mat, pissed off of course and the car idled fine again. What is the problem. On a hot day when i go through the drive thru with the heat off the car start to climb fast on the temp. hand.Turn the heat on bust and it drops back down.

I checked my oil cap,and rad cap no signs of residue at all. Help!!

Either get a colder temp thermostat or get one from Honda.

Yeah $20-30. It's worth it I think, based on your story. My thermostat lasted the first 12 years of the cars life, I finally had to replace it because it would run cold (always open) last winter. Replaced it and it worked perfectly again, no problems like yours. Plus I think Honda ones are the "fail safe" type, if they break they are designed to stay open so your car won't overheat.

depending on where u live, you can just take the thermostat out and run your car without. also, check to make sure the radiator fan is coming on. Also, bleed the cooling system.

Thanks for the replies fellas. As for the fan coming on the plug in that goes to my thermostat housing one wire is cracked so i have no worries on my fan working.I gotta get around to fixing that. But regardless of that not working it dont affect the car running cool. Also that fail safe thermostat,is there either way of telling it is what it is by looking at it??
