thermostat replaced overheat still
I just recently replaced my thermostat and put in new coolant but my car still overheats in about 30 minutes. I need to figure out what it is cause its summer now and it gets hot even faster.

Does the fan come on when it starts over heating? Check your lower hose, and make sure it isn't collapsed. My EF had a collapsed lower radiator hose and i had to drive it home from a 900 mile road trip in the sweltering summer WITH THE HEAT ON THE WHOLE WAY. It started raining at one point too. God that sucked.

Re: thermostat replaced overheat still (B serious)
you may have a coolant blockage, if your coolant is dirty flush the whole system and replace with fresh coolant

Radiator can be cloged by using tap water (mineral deposites), air in the lines (keeps t-stat from opening by staying cool), bad pump, or a bad headgasket. There's ways to test for them all, just look around. Likely its air and maybe your waterpump. My bro just did his waterpump, looked ok when removed, but the new pump fixed his 20-minutes-per-overheat problem.

i flushed out the old coolant already and i checked for any bubbles in the coolant. so im guessing i have to check the waterpump. also the fan doesnt come on at all even when i let it sit and turn on the heater full blast.

Re: thermostat replaced overheat still (TheTealHatch)
shouldnt a water pump only be replaced if its leaking??(thats what ive read so far) so i narrow it down to the head gasket then?

I am having the same issues. I'm thinking its either the head gasket, water pump, or warped head....drove it around once around town stuck in traffic with the needle near H.

sounds to me like a bad headgasket... have a friend drive around behind you and see if you burn white smoke, if you do... you're burning coolant and have a bad headgasket... or water pump

Re: thermostat replaced overheat still (ITLNstallion818)
i think its burning white smoke cause i down shifter and my girlfriend behind me said there was white smoke. I just figured my fan does turn on when my needle is on completely hot. When i push my car for a few seconds the temperature shoots all the way hot.then a few mins after i have my car still but on it slowly cools down but is still pass the half way mark. Also after it heats up the car starts to lag when i try to go. it laggs around 2 grand...Is it cause of the over heat? or something else

ok sounds like a very simple problem here. first i presume you check the fuse for the cooling fan ? and the cooling fan relay ? does the fan motor work if powered by a 12 volt source ? also what year car is it more info is needed.

Re: thermostat replaced overheat still (dtapia)
cheked the fuse for the cooling fan already and it was good. its a 94 cx with a d16z6. the fan comes on but it takes forever for it to come on.

Re: thermostat replaced overheat still (TheTealHatch)
do you have to refill you coolent constantly? I have to for mine. It heats up when ride'n and the fan doesn't do much, but when I pop the hood and look at the res. tank...I can see coolent coming out of the cap. Open it and steam comes out. I let it cool off for awhile...go check...and no coolent in the res. tank.

Re: thermostat replaced overheat still (TheTealHatch)
What engine is this? I have a sneaky suspicion that it is a D15B7 with a bad head gasket, but need some more information.
Your fan should turn on before the temp needle even moves from its normal position. Test your fan switch.
If the needle makes it all the way to H, you're already doing damage. Do not drive the car when it is hot.

Sounds like its the D15b7 for sure. If it is then I can guarantee that the engine is corroded in the cooling channels. Mine was so bad I was surprised it ran for as long as it did.

Re: (erixxxhouse)
its a d16z6. How do i test the fan switch?? Im guessing something is wrong with the sensor cause it takes too long for the fan to even come on.
