Mine may have gone out on the freeway the other night but I'm not sure. What are the symptoms re dash lights, in particular the CEL code? Should the CEL have come on?

After the stall I couldn't restart the car until I tried over the course of the next few days.

It depends on how it fails and what ECU you have. For example, if the fuel pump completely cuts off all of a sudden then the motor could shut off without having a chance to pick up a code. You also may not get a CEL just because your car runs out of gas, which is just like a fuel pump problem. You can, however get a misfire, fuel supply or rich/lean code if you run the car awhile with a failing fuel pump.

Check for priming of the fuel pump, spark at the plugs, and a broken/slipped timing belt.

I'd listen for the sound of the pump ^^^ as dude said. needless to say - if the pump doesn't prime audibly, chances are your pump is dead, or your main relay has failed.

thanks guys. this is actually part of a larger issue. the car stalls after about 15min of driving. everything then shuts off including all dash lights and wont restart. Usually the next morning the car mysteriously restarts. I suspected the fuel pump for a bit.

anyhow i started another thread on the stalling issue. It happened again last night.
