Testing for spark, something went wrong???
I have a 95 Civic Ex auto. I tried testing for spark by removing the spark plug #1, plugged in a different spark plug and crank the engine. The car started and I see spark. I then told my freind to shut engine off and after that car won't start anymore. It only cranks and don't know what happened, there is no spark either. Before the test it started with no problems at all.

I'm kinda ghetto, but I usually check for spark by removing the plug wire and arcing it against some metal.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you suppose to remove all four when you do that test and that's what caused his problem?

Removed one plug wire, put the plug into it and turned the car on while leaving the other three wires attached. A Civic will run fine on three cylinders for a long time, so it started and he burned something/shorted something out.

I've burned out an ignition coil before doing that. Good thing I had a spare otherwise I would have owed my friend a $80 coil.

This happened to me too. I had to replace the coil.
