Default Terrible Gas Mileage

After swaping out my z6 motor for a y8 motor in my 94 civic i am getting horrible gas mileage. Are there any plugs that i could have forgot to hook up...ground wires...or anything like that?? ANY suggestions would greatly help me out...thanks

This sounds dumb BUT, I was getting worse and worse mileage, I had just bought the car (95 cx) So I took the plugs out, raw fuel on the plugs after brief idle... Plugs are fouled and shot, rust on the ceramic so I changed them to NGK irridiums that are supposed to be one heat ranger colder for a WRX and PRESTO, much better mileage. Start small, routine maintenance makes a big difference.

hey man i got a 97 ex 4dr. Im kinda experiancing the same problem. I get bout 25mpg out of my engine but im always redlinin it. Its wierd that i fill up the tank and go 100 miles and the fuel guage is at 3/4 full but over the next 100 miles the fuel guage is almost at empty. Check for leaks didnt find any.

I'm still trying to figure out why you took the Z6 out and put a very similar engine back in it!?!!?!?!?!

the guage is only for rough estimate, it tops out before it's completely full. i go about 70mi in my eg before the needle starts coming down. it's normal. if you want hard numbers, keep a log of you odometer reading at fuel stops along with fuel pumped (i like to put the date too, but you don't have to). every month or two take the difference of your first and last mileage and divide by the total gas you pumped. accuracy increases as time goes on if you keep up with it.

The reason i needed a new engine was due to a bent rod and a scarred cylinder. And i already had the other engine...and honestly, i dont have the money to go out and buy another motor....

Are you running a z6 ecu or y8? Y8's and Z6's engine's have different timming maps requirements.

Check your timing, the dizzy maybe be off a little bit. I have the same problem, but my timing belt is old and i have the dizzy advanced all the way and it still bogs once in a while. I would check out your timing to make sure that the car is running efficiently, then you can start checkin other things.

If i were to get a y8 ecu...which would be OBD2....how much of a difference is it gonna make?

Secondly, if i were to get a y8 ecu, should i get a new wiring harness, or just get an obd1-obd2 adapter

how long has the y8 been sitting and how long ago did you do the swap? replaced fuel filter? what intake manifold are you using? what plugs are you using?

that could be ur problem. The z6 and the y8 ecu's have totally differnet timing /fuel maps. It will make a world of difference. I think a obd1 to obda or b jumper harness would be sufficient.

The motor had been sitting for probably 4-5 months..I havent replaced the fuel filter yet, im using the z6 head and intake manifold, and im running NGK plugs

Ok, just so were clear...your suggestion would be...swap ecu with y8 ecu, and get an obd1 to odba jumper harness? and that's it?

CHECK TIMING, PUT NEW PLUGS IN, CHANGE FUEL FILTER, RUN 93 OCTANE GAS, SEE HOW IT IS DOING IN ABOUT 200 MILES.
