TEMPORARY Cherry Bomb Glass Pack??
I have a '97 Civic EX (pics soon, im baby new here on HT) (All stock right now, but I have big dreams)
My Muff recently rusted through at the in pipe. instead of paying 200+ for stock replacement, I figured on spending 160 for magnaflow at meineke, but they weren't stamped "MAGNAFLOW" so I asked about it on the phone, and the guy hung up on me...
Cut to the chase - I can't afford the 250 for HKS with custom fittings and weldings, so in the mean time, I intent to slap a glass pack bright red straight through on there. How bad of an idea is that? I paid like 35 for everything... Cat back to the flange is the same, just cut off the in pipe 3" past the rust, and use a 1.75 - 2" converter, no problems, right?
Has anyone used these, temp or for real?
Lemme know, I'd love some input!
Also, how loud will it really be? I still have the resonator on there...
THANKS GUYS!

Just save up until you can get a real exhaust. eBay has Megan and such exhausts all day every day for well under $300 shipped. Buy one and use that. Glasspack/cherry bomb mufflers are loud and obnoxious.

IMO i would get a magnaflow canister from auto zone and have meineki weld it on there, it wouldnt be expensive, but at the same time not really cheap. Or like ^^ said just save up for a real exhaust.

Umm I dont think its that loud and obnoxious..
Unless its just the truck tip but i doubt that has anything to do with it

what brand is it, btw? Hope its not "Magnaflow" from Meineke...... "Fagnaflow?"..... shouldn't be.... LMAO

the magnaflows they sell at meineke (at lest the 3 near me) are not stamped "magnaflow" and I talked to the company, and they said stay away, and they would call meineke. I think they were cherrybomb turbo IIs but for >100 bucks. but then again the cherry bomb turbos are stamped too, arent they....? so I guess its some fake no name brand. Either way, its a bad call.

I have a cherrybomb turbo II on my car beacuse I had the same rust problem and the muffler was given to me. Sounds gppd to me, definately not ricy, just a nice deep tone. The cherrybomb will not sound too bad either, just need to keep on the resonator, otherwise it will be obnoxious.

i had a glasspack on my b16 civic and mandrel bent pipes i welded up I had like a hundred dollars in the exhaust.
At a certain rpm range it sounded bad ***, but the rest of the range sounded like ****, loud raspy echoing.

i have 2.5" straight piping...btw this is on a h22 hatch.
goes like this: arospeed header(cheapo, removed flex pipe and replaced with 2.5") test pipe, then a cherry bomb, then 2.5" straight pipe out the side in front of my RR tire, bolonie cut. sounds great, only way i can describe it is...like the tone of a 350z oem exhaust and a rx7...like a mix..very strange but def unique.
EDIT- remember i have a h22 which do sound Alot different than BSeries/ Dseries...IMHO
And no..my exhaust pipe does not make my RR tire slippery and what not because im sure someone will say "Dont that exhaust like that make ur tire loose traction? or some dumb BS.

imo i would try to find just a cheap stock one used at the market place and use that until you save emough to get waht you want, i've heard the big cherry bomb glass packs, imo they sound like crap, do it right the first time.

no, I'm not, do I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about? I haven't done that much work on my car myself yet, but I know what stuff does, and generally where it is, and what it looks like
Don't worry, I'm not offended
Update, though, I got sick from being in the cold working on the thing, and couldn't finish.
I got a muff shop to cut the bolts off of the flange for me and its zip-tied to the hanger bar, and I've been driving it for a week.
BOLT KIT CAME TODAY so I will update as soon as I'm finished!
