Default Temperature gauge on si cluster.....

My engine temp gauge is shooting up to hot even though my engine is completely cold....Is there a senor on the engine some where i can look at to see if it is loose or is my Si gauge acting up? This is happening to my 96 EK hatch with a 99/00 SI gauge cluster.....

right under the distributor.....play with the plug....probabally got a lil oil on your contacts....if it is oily, fix the leak...

edit: also....plug in your original cluster...just to see if it acts up as well...eliminate the cluster as being the problem...

Check the ECT switch right next to the lower radiator hose. When my temp guage didn't work that was the culprit. It wasn't erratic though; it just did not work at all.

HTH.
