Default TDC sensor code 8

Ive searched and found alot of talk about code 8, the reason i made a new thread is because of the strange circumstances around my cursed eg.

bought this car, dizzy started pissing oil out of it.. >< got a "new" one (refurb) it held for 40 mins and strated doing the same thing.. (warranty) got a 3rd one, this one has held up for all of 5 days and now I get a cel today - its coming up code 8 TDC sensor which i've come to understand means replace the dizzy.. Am i really that unlucky? or does my car just love to eat distributors?

A little background: the previous owner hacked the harness off and had the diz hardwired so the last 2 dizzys i had have also been hardwired in. (havent been able to come across a harness in the boneyard yet) I dunno if it has anything to do with it, but I just put a new turbo on my car last night and it popped a cel this morning. The car is running a chipped p28. when i jumped the harness with the key in the on position, I was getting a solid cel, it didnt flash until I started the car and then jumped it.

the car takes 3-4 cranks to start where it normally starts with one bump, it idles fine, but once the car warms up it idles on the verge of dying and bouncing between 200-500ish

Does the sensor have 350-700 Ohms of resistance? If not, return the distributor and buy one from a different source. Otherwise, check the two TDC sensor wires for an open or short.

thanks i will check those things out when i get home. The biggest thing i cant wrap my head around is how I keep chewing dizzys apart like this. My eclipse has 180,000 miles on it and I never once had to change it. I must be terribly unlucky with refurbs.. is there anything a car could do that would make them fail like this?

I'm in the same boat. Hacked harness. Idling issues. TDC sensor dead. What was your solution?
