tb install help
been lurking for a while ... was hoping someone could help me with this... i have '99 d16y8 ... i got a teg tb off a friend and went to install it ... this is my second time trying (argh!)...i set the tps to .45v closed throttle on the teg tb ... put everything back together... and the idle is still jumping between 1k-2k rpm... i compared the voltage to stock and it is the same... i played with the idle screw but no go... i don't know what else to do... any ideas?
here is what i have...: d16y8 w/ -pnp head milled 36 thou -jg85vt35 cam -cam gear (3 degrees retard) -i/h/e -teg tb i don't want to drive the car around with the idle all messed up.. and i don't want the idle to sit at 2500rpm! (playing with different voltages i seem to be able to hold a steady idle that high)... help please!! thanks! |
Re: tb install help (civicmug)
set tps to .45, 4.5 at 100%. you've got that down, the only thing left is to make sure you don't have a vacuum leak between tb and IM. Also, does the new TB have a fast idle control valve? Almost sounds like it does and the plunger on the TB isn't setting properly. Or during the change, you may have gotten a bubble into the IAVC and its causing it. Either way, sounds like a IACV or fast idle issue.

Re: tb install help (seen4ever)
i just read something about cleaning out the iacv and screwing down a white disc (?) in the iacv? i will check this ... thanks for the hints seen4ever!... will post the results.... https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

Re: tb install help (civicmug)
still no go.... i took it for a test drive... and noticed some whistling... so i might have a vacuum leak but i can't figure out where... it doesn't whistle when i rev in neutral... it is a gsr throttle body... do i need to use a gsr gasket? ... there is also a nozzle for a vacuum line in the front of the tb that i plugged... don't know if that has anything to do with it but....
??!?!?!!? |
Re: tb install help (civicmug)
the white disc is the plunger in the fast idle control valve. IACV is normally located on the intake manifold. The fast idle control valve is normally located on the trottlebody on the bottom of it, it has two ports on the outside that coolant lines run through. basicly, coolant from head to fast idle, from fast idle to idle air control valve.
if you have a whisle, it could be that the IACV's gasket is messed up, although it shouldn't have come off during the tb install. |
Re: tb install help (civicmug)
ok... so this is what i learned...
gasket - the y8 tb gasket is not big enough for the gsr tb... old gasket = vacuum leak idle - setting the idle was a bitch (probably just me though)... i could only get it to idle as low as 1000rpm... and it takes a bit for it to settle down... iacv - what it looks like inside and how to tighten the white screw down... from what i read online and what i saw it wasn't quite what i thought it would look like .... the new tb lets the car rev much more freely (sp?) and i think it definitely pulls harder!! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gifhttps://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif just waiting for my chipped p28 before i hit the dyno for some tuning... https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif thanks for all the help and suggestions! if anyone else has any ideas on how to get my idle back to stock (700ish).. that would be great... https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif |
Re: tb install help (civicmug)
well its a pretty safe bet that there is a vacum leak somewhere in that area make sure that the gasket is sealing and check the differences between the intake gaskets that should solve your prob hard to say exactly with out being there https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
