Targa tops.
So, I'll tell the whole story. Last night I was driving home from downtown... you know, doing a good 80MPH on the freeway... and all of a sudden...
WHOOSH!! My targa top flies off of my car.
I flipped out and was cursing to extremes... had to go back find the top.. luckily it didn't hit anyone.
Funny thing was, the top was latched. When I found the top it wasn't as bad as I would have thought. It's bent on the backside...
Question is: Is it worth saving?

Could be possible. But I seriously.. I had, had the top on for about 3 days... going to work... doing stuff.. never had a problem. I love my car... even if it's the car of doom.

About how much for a new top, compared to fixing it? If you have it fixed, what's the risk of it still leaking? Is that worth it? I say just go for the most cost-effective, worthwhile choice. If it's not super-expensive, I'd suggest just going with a new top.

I found one 14 miles from Cordova, in Millington, for $210. It's at Massey's Auto Parts (1-800-238-5964). I don't know the color or anything though, besides that it's from a 1995.
There's a black one from a 1993 del Sol 42 miles from Codova at Bolvivar Salvage & Auto Parts (1-800-748-9185). They want $150.91.
There's also a black one from a 1994 75 imles from Cordova in Ridgley at C and H Auto Sales and Salvage (1-800-244-0683). They want $100.
The closest white one I see is from a 1993 for $150. It's at Al's Foreign Car in St. Louis (1-888-453-1858). 245 miles from Cordova.

Yeah, even if he calls first and asks the condition, they might not be as picky as he is about the paint's appearance.
I'd get the $100 one and get it painted.

Found a del sol for $200 bucks.... I'm buying it and parting it out. It has a targa top that I can use... a side door... panels... front end... etc. If anyone needs parts, let me know. The dude is selling it because the motor has 254K on it. Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it.

Re: Targa tops. (jayjay)
Uhm.... they have a light that shows you when the top is completely off. Not a light that warns you. Also, it doesn't help when your LED light is burned out... and that's the night you figure that out. =]
Also, unfortunately they don't have a buzzer. Del Sol's weren't made with expensive equipment... not to put my car down or anything [or any other del sol owner for that matter] but they were made rather cheaply. They didn't come with a lot of options or "specs"... the top was clicked shut. I found it on the side of the road, clicked shut. Metal rods and everything intact. I have a new one now so it's all good.
Someone I know had a similar situation happen with his Sol... only... one of his sides wasn't clicked shut. But, oh well. My top leaked. Now it doesn't. I'm stoked on getting a new top anyway.
P.S. I tried the "selling the targa on eBay and calling it a JDM duckbill targa".... just for ***** and giggles.... people actually bid on it. It was pretty entertaining.
[Sorry for the long post]

Re: Targa tops. (Pornogratherapy)
I added the headlight buzzer DIY in the FAQ and I haven't left them on again!
I guess I'll have to watch out for my top now tho, thx.
BTW are you still parting out that Sol?
