Taking a road trip to vegas on my BONE STOCK cx...yea or nea??
I live in the bay area CA and will be taking a long 8 hour road trip to vegas. Should I drive my bone stock 93 CX hatch? Or just rent a car? The hatch has the shitty *** 1.5 motor and I know if i drive up hills and stuff i'll be in 3rd gear or maybe even 2nd gear alot. But the long straight hightways I wont have a problem in. What would you guys do?

take your car. when the hills come jus go into the slow lane instead of trying to maintain your speed at 80mph.
trust me its almost impossible.

Ive got a true drop in ITR engine available...
Take the car man. Check air pressure, oil, coolant, air filter and you should be fine.

i would......its better off being stock, considering
most mods we do make our cars less comfortable.

I drove to Miami from Dallas in an h22 hatch that had a leaking exhaust that would infiltrate into the interior. That SUCKED.
Taking a bone stock hatch on road trips rocks cuz you can play games to see how great your gas mileage is.

You should not have a problem, use to have 1.5 liter and it zooms to the hill without any hassle. It does save alot of gas, but get extra cushion for your long trip.

The 1.5 isn't that slow, lol. I mean its slow, but its not going to give you trouble going up hills.

from someone that lives in socal but drives to school in the bay area, i will tell you if you keep it around 80 you will get DISGUSTINGLY good gas mileage. i will also tell you your engine will want to commit suicide going up the hills. heres my strategy for hte hills . . . .
usually hills are up and down, i mean theres a downward part before the ascent. the trick is to gain as much speed as you can before you start going uphill. its easy and doesnt take much engine power when you're going downhill to speed up. and you can use that momentum to get it up the hill with relative ease and moderate speed works for me.

i agree on the butt padding.. 8 hour drive wears on you but yeah.. took my stock cx from fresno to san deigo no problem at all. as for mountains, another agreement there... just pick up some speed and you should be able to hold 80 in like 4th gear up the hill.. then just pop it in 5th and coast down the other side of the hill :D. 1.5 traveling power!! gas was great

i drove to s.f. from o.c. in a new toyota scion. and it has a 109 hp 1.5 liter.
oh yea i also had all our clothes and a complete b18b i was selling to someone there..
only bad time i had was stopping in the middle of lambard street on the steepest hill (steepest hill in sf)
it was a stop sign on the top and i got stuck in the middle of traffic, so it was stop and go with cars in frotn and behind me
and i had to dump the clutch just right at like 4-5 k or the weight of the car on the incline would just stall the car out. and if i revved too high id break the tires loose and slide down the hill backwards while burning out.
it wasnt fun.. i stalled it like 5 times before somehow i got it up. and when you dont have your break booster helping you apply the brakes on a hill thats like driving up a wall you cant stop.. i was like 1 mm from backing up into someone till i yanked the ebrake just in time

I did that same trip in my dx 2 months in to having it. It was very slow but it gave me no problem and it had 190,xxx miles on it. Fun trip though. Don't spend to much money save some to fix up that car.

Your going to need to turbocharge it.
... it's the only way.
