doing 5lug conversion. in the rear im taking out that fat 24mm bolt + 4 torx screws.

got 3 torx out, last torx screw is starting to strip. I was thinkin about using one of my sockets that are meant for stripped nuts. (the kind that has TEETH to grab on to the sides)


any other ideas? would using a larger torx work?

Have you tried an impact driver with a Torx bit on the end of it?

I used the good old vice grips on mine.

u can always use a dremel tool with a cutting wheel to cut a slot so u can use a flat head bit. works for me all the time with stripped screws/bolts.

I've read in general that getting out those torx screws is hard and once you strip it then you need to swap the whole trailing arm...not sure if that's bs but that's what I've heard.

If you can, drill out the screw or get a dremmel and cut it out

If worst comes to worst, you can always drill a small hole in the center of the existing bolt.
Then go to home depot, and get a thing called an EZ-Out, which is pretty much something that you can screw in with a drill or a pair of pliers or something, but you can't unscrew it.

That tool will grip on the bolt from the inside of it, and allow you to unscrew it.

Only drawback is that you need a lot of room to drill that initial hole.

you can drill from the outside of the the car (if arm is still on car) if you take the hub off. Use the easy out asap after drilling the heat will help it break loose.

You're talking about the little screws that hold down the dust shields, right? When I removed the shields, I broke the screws loose by clamping the vice grips on the small lip on the head of the screw (still had to do some cutting to the shields). If you're talking about some screws that the head lays flat with the surface, this obviously wouldn't work (the screws that hold the rotors for instance). For those I have an impact screwdriver. Not compressed air, you literally impact it with a mallet and it turns the screw. Got it at Harbor Freight.

its not 100% stipped yet. I was attempting to pull out the torx using a breaker bar.

the torx head still fits in there, just that 1 or the corners are f-ed up a bit.

Well.. sounds like you need impact driver. When you turn the driver it wants to back out and start to strip right? Using impact driver(not air tool) when you hit it with the mallet it compresses and turns the screw with the force applied.
