Taking a Loan for new engine.. but what kind?
I plan on taking a loan out to swap out my motor. I was debating on the simple b18b1 setup, then I thought of a b16a. which one would you put in if you have a 93 civic HB dx model...
Thanks guys!

Definitely the B18C1. And YES the price difference is worth it. http://www.hondamotorsonline.com or find someone who is selling one for cheap(legal of course ).

take some advice from a elder, DO NOT get a loan for a motor.
Worst mistake you can make.
If you can't afford it now, you can't afford it later.
Say in 2 years you get married, now bills are stacking up and you aer still paying for the swap.

Live within your means bro...Don't try and be a big dog without the funds to back it up. I'm not knocking you at all, it just doesn't seem like a wise descision.

I agree with the above. Don't get a loan for an engine. If and when you have the cash in the future, get the swap.

I got a loan for my swap and it's CHEAPER than some car payment, right?
If your hatch is paid off then I say go for it and get the loan.
These "kids" who go out and purchase $16,000.00+ on a new car and then fork out hella insurance premiums are 10 times more worse off than any of us with a piddly loan for a motor swap.
I'd rather pay like $120.00 a month for a few years than pay $450+ a month plus the crazy insurance rates too.
If you are patient enough to wait it out and pay cash, then more power to you, but I know that I was not and I'd still be saving as I type now and I would not have ever had any of my swaps had I never taken out a loan.
Just my opinion though...

I have to agree, taking out a small loan isn't all that bad. For me it would be for the simple reason that 100 bucks a month for 18 months is is so much more affordable than saving every dollar and spending it all at once. Some people just can't do that. It is kind of like a credit card, sometimes you have to spend a little more to get what you want now. ANd most of the time in the end it is worth it.

don't get a loan for a motor, if you don't take the advice from the village elder, take it from the village financec major. Yeah it may sound like a good idea and an easy way to get the funding for a swap, but considering your age, you probably don't have much credit, if you do have good credit, you may not have much credit, you probably don't have many assets, and to a bank, a motor swap really isn't very liquid, therefore, your interest rate will prolly be fairly high. And if you default on it, it won't help your credit rating and defaulting on a loan for $2,000 is gonna hurt your credit score a lot more than missing a payment on your credit card. If you do get the motor and it gets stolen, you're SOL, you'll be paying on a motor that you no longer have. What incentive will you have ot pay it off? If the car gets wrecked and you decide to part out the motor, what happens, are you going to do the right thing and put every penny from the sale of parts aside to pay off your loan of are you gonna go buy lunch here, a new stereo there? Just save your money. Open up a savings account, throwing money into that will actually help your credit at the same time.

A LOAN FOR AN ENGINE!!! Maybe a loan for a new or used car with a nice engine already in it, but not a loan for an engine.

dont listen to anyone but yourself...if you think you can handle it go for it .....**** man when my freind got done payong off his jeep he took out a 7000 doller loan for freakin suspension..besides you CAN talk to your insurance and get you policy set on an AGREED AMOUNT...meaning they will pay you the agreed amount if the vehicle is lost....but your monthly will go up slightly...it's not going to be much though and is definatly worth it IMO.....and that way your not out for the moter...and to the peeps saying to take out a loan for a car and not a motor???? this does not make sense...what if your car needs a new moter and nothing else is wrong with the car and you have no funds $$$ please...

This is all too funny.
I see people running up charge cards for **** like home theaters, car steroe equipment, clothes, etc. and to me that **** is retarded, but something like an engine swap is a good thing to take a loan for IMO.
Why?
Say you get a loan for $4000.00 to get a good DOHC VTEC swap, bolt-ons, or labor depending on your mechanical inclination.
You lose your job and you're "screwed" right?
Wrong.
You just paid $2,400-$3,200 depending on swap, so why would someone else not? Swaps are always easy to get rid of if taken care of, and as you all should know motors with 70K still pull premiums like SR20 motors do near Drag Wars
Seriously, why suffer now if you can afford small monthly payments? Just don't get carried away and begin to charge everything - that's what gets people in lots of credit trouble.
They get all the bullshit like clothes and crap that don't really last long and have NO resle value on top of the swap and ****.
Just know your limits and stick to them.
Hell, I was paying a bill today for my fiancee's engagement ring and the place said "would you like $700 cash?" I said thanks but no thanks. $700 cash would get my front end fixed with my insurance deductable and I could get the Dc JDM 4-1 header I've been wanting, but I know my limits.
So should you guys.
