Taking the head off
I need to change the head gasket of my 94 honda civic dx.
all stock.
I went to auto zone and pep boys, they didn't have a dam helms manual.
So does anyone have like any information on how to take the head out.
Thanks for your help in advance

Re: Taking the head off (sshaikh01)
I've pulled the head on my 94 Si, probably 3 times this month...this is typically what I do, correct me if I'm out of order on anything...Make sure engine is at TDC.
1. disconnect battery and all sensors connecting to intake manifold and head, including fuel injection rail
2. Drain oil and coolant
3.Unbolt exhaust manifold/header- I usually take all the way off, but you can pull it back far enoough out of the way
4. remove power steering unit, and lay out of way(hose is still attached), and alternator belt
5.Pull of timing belt cover- you will probably have to remove the driver side motor mount, just make sure the engine is secure with a jack.
6. You can slide the timing belt off(hard to do), or remove crank pulley( easiest way to do is remove the flywheel inspection cover from the tranny, and stick a screw driver or wrench between teeth and tranny casing to stop the engine from rotating.) The crank pulley bolt is I believe 18 mm?? forgot, anyway, and unbolt the crank pulley( get a breaker bar or a strong impact wrench, the bolt is standard thread too).
7. slide off the crank pulley and remove the lower timing belt cover assembly.
8. Now you can see the crank sprocket, water pump, etc. Loosen the belt tensioner and slide the belt off( forgot to say remove valve cover and distributor ).
9. Remove all coolant/ heater hoses from head/intake manifold to the block or firewall.
10. Loosen head bolts in sequence, only loosening them a little at a time, as to not putting pressure only on a few bolts. Work your way from center of head to outside until all bolts are loose and no more pressure is on any bolts and remove.
11. remove the 2 bolts that hold the intake manifold to a bracket from the block(12 mm) from underneath the car.
12. carefully remove head and intake manifold assembly together.
It's easier to pull both at the same time, hopefully I got everything there, I'm really tired and it seems like it all. As far as getting cam timing correct, post again when you are ready to put the head back on, and make sure you CLEAN all mating surfaces WELL before reassembly.
Please pitch in anybody if I have missed anything..hopefully not, and I'm assuming it's for SOHC, since I saw you have a 98 EX or something.. Good luck. And get a breaker or prepare to break a few ratchets taking off head bolts and crank bolt..I know I did!!!

Re: Taking the head off (sshaikh01)
If you can wait the 3-5 days... do yourself a favor and pick up the helms... Remember not to scratch the head and block mating surfaces when you are reomving the old gasket. Brand new putty knives works well.

cam need not to be touched
It is best to align crank and cam at TDC before tearing apart.
