Tail Happy Hatch
Never driven my hatch in the snow until last week. and it is quite surprising.
The tail end just flies out with little to no help. i feel it has to do with a couple things.
1. i have koni yellow's in the rear, agx's up front and ground control coilovers.
2. new tires up front, and some 30% tread ones in the rear
3. light hatch with no weight over the rear.
i mean sure its fun, but damn, i sure was surpised when i pulled out for the first time in the snow on the street and fishtailed about 3 times. also did a complete 360 on bridge going 30-35mph while trying to change lanes. i guess those "bridge freezes before road" signs are true. i feel i've got it under control now, but it can be a little unnerving.
i've had a coupe with an ok suspension (tokico blues, springs) on it and it never did this.
any suggestions, i was thinking of sandbags

lol yea, my coupe is like that. Going arond corners in the snow is kinda fun lol. Lightly whip the wheel a little and the *** end will swing out lol.
You could get some snow tires, they help a lot. Maybe try some sandbags? Cinderblocks? Watch it though, if you have more weight in the back and your *** end goes out, it will be a lot harder to get back because of the additional weight.

you still got drums in the rear????
sounds like whoever did your last brake job adjusted them a little too tight!!! A frontwheel drive car should not fish tail unless you actually pull on the ebrake...
jack up both sides of the back and see if both back wheels spin freely with little or no resistance when you turn them!! if they are hard to spin you should readjust them..

You left out a key detail:
What tires do you run?
I'd say get some steelies and some Blizzaks or a comparable snow/ice tire.

And what settings / spring rates are you running? If your rear is stiffer than your front, you'll get oversteer.

i did my brakes last and i know they are good.
im rocking some 185/60/14's so i go some some nice pizza cutters. never though about how much harder it would be to get the tail back with more weight. i'll try it in a parking lot first.
my shock are set as soft as you can get and the spring rate are 450 front 350 rear i think. i am looking into some 800's or so for drag racing. but those wont go on till the snow melts.
thanks for the tip guys. looks like it snowing now..... wish me luck

Re: Tail Happy Hatch (Burke)
This may seem WAAAAAAAY out there, not to mention basic intuition - but - according to this article http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...s.jsp the tires with the best tread should be on the rear. I have read this in a couple of other places as well.

well you won't move very far if you can't get the wheels that spin to get traction
so then you won't need to worry about the rear sliding out cause you won't budge the car in snow

Re: (slamdLScivic)
you guys think too much into it. he just needs decent tires in the back .
but it isnt that bad, just drive a tad slower. thats all
