Tachometer on a 99'

Tachometer on a 99'
Hey, I have a 99' Honda Civic DX, w/o a tachometer.
This is obviously not a race car, its just my daily driver to school
and i was looking to add a tach, it does help sometimes,
What do you guys recommend I get, Just a tach to bolt on the side of door
or console, or get a whole new guage cluster (dunno about this) where
would be best place to put it. And can i assure it will be 100% perfectly calibrated
accurate rpm's

Try searching gauge clusters..also you could an an EX gauge cluster but if you like looks more i'd go for an si cluster and yes it will be just as accurate as a civic ex would be stock.

how hard would it be to install a full cluster im thinkin pretty hard,
remove the oil level guage and heat guage and all other guages,install new
ones and wire each one back to its original area, most of the car has to be
gutted it seems,
So you dont think i should get just the tach? because then i can leave all the
stock things in place and just wire the tach.

dont put a tach on the pillar 
imho. as far as changing out the cluster, 6 phillips screws, unplug your cluster plug new one in. simple.

yes it is quite simple, just unscrew the 6 screws and unplug the cluster and the new one you get with a tach will plug right up, regardless if it is Si or Ex or whatever!

I thought i would have to run the tach sensor somewhere
(again i have a 1999 civic dx w/o a tachometer)
so how is it just plug and play? i never took the cluster apart
so there is just one plug for everything?

Your vehicle is already prewired for a tachometer. It's the blue wire behind your dash. Everything is plug and play. You could also swap your odomter to retain your mileage. There will be one-two plugs that won't be used depending on your vehicle. There's a green plug on the EX/Si cluster you won't use. That's for cruise control. The other is if the cluster is automatic and yours is 5spd. You won't need the plug that goes to the gear indicator.

Also what civic years and trims will work with my car because
i plan on hitting a few junkyards around me looking for a cluster.

I was in the same situation about a month or so ago. http://www.woodfins.com is where I got mine from. I don't think it was anymore than like $50. Also took about 4 days to get it, and it was in mint condition. I ended up getting an automatic cluster, but oh well, it'll just confuse people even more.
