Default Tach/Speedo/Odometer/Signals out? FIXED

I just got done doing some minor maintenance work on the car, and I had taken my cluster out to see if there was something wrong with it because my temp gauge wont work. Well after I put it all back together, I later noticed my tach isn't working? The only thing I really did behind the cluster was tighten some screws, and removed old wires from when I had aftermarket tach (I checked the wires for breaks after removal, they're all solid connections). That and I used some engine degreaser to clean up the area around my passenger side axle where I'm leaking trans fluid. Did I possibly short something out with the water?

I tried to see if I can get power to the blue wire on the 12 pin connector on the left but I get nothing, when I go to the dizzy and check there, I still have no power? Or is it not possible to check that with a test light? I only have a crap multimeter when I used that at the dizzy I was getting readings, but then again at the cluster I had nothing.

I'm pretty stumped here?

Okay what the hell, I just went for a drive, no tach, no speedo, no odometer, no turn signals.. But I have hazard lights... can somebody please chime in on this

Okay I just checked the fuses, the back up light fuse 10amp keeps blowing.. I obviously have a short, but where? Could this be from the water? I didn't go anywhere near the dizzy, just below it by the trans/axle area

Do you have a multimeter capable of checking engine RPM? If so test it from the test connector under the hood, near the clutch reservoir.

If thats the one for the instrument cluster/tail lamps that is fine. The back up light fuse keeps blowing on me though. I have to track down a short.

I really hate electrical lol

Fuse 15 is for both the cluster gauges and back up lights.

Check 10A fuse 15 for voltage at both top test tabs with the key in ON(II).

That's your problem. Do some "unplug tests".

If you unplug the cluster connectors, does fuse 15 still blow?

If so, unplug the back up light switch to see whether the fuse no longer blows.

You know what that just gave me an idea, the back up lights switch is on the trans somewhere right? I remember someone pointing that out to me, the wires are just loose in the engine bay (I have so many unplugged harnesses).. I wonder if theres something going on with that!! Thanks for the idea, I'm definitely going to try that tomorrow. Could you possibly post a picture of the back up switch location and wire colors?

Alright! Got it fixed, a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. My car is stick, harness and ecu on the car are from an auto (bought this way). The reverse switch wires were laying exposed on the trans housing grounding out. Taped it up and tucked away. New fuse and all is well. I can't wait to pull this motor and get my swap in!

Thanks for the help guys
