tach alternative to big monster gauge
my engine's redline is a lot higher than the 8k shown on my tach, and i need an aftermarket one, but i absolutely HATE the monster autometer tachometers. i will never put one of those in anything i own.
so what are some of my other alternatives? i'm trying for something subtle. i really don't want to feel like i'm climbing into a spaceship everytime i get in my hatch.

Maybe look around for a spoon cluster or even cluster from a EG6 ? how high are we talking here.

or you could do a little more custom work and mount a DC2R cluster in your car. There are instructions to do it here on honda tech.
Its unlikely that your car is reving past 10k rpm. Or you could even just look around for some aftermarket guage faces that have higher RPMs marked on them. Like these. I actually have these guage faces in my race car and love them.
They are Eurolight/ractive but they more then do the job.. I happen to like them, some people may say they are rice but whatever to each their own.

Re: tach alternative to big monster gauge (P1_Variable)
There is a gauge company that starts with an S, sorry but I'm blanking on the name. But someone on here replace their tach with one from this company and it worked and was a perfect fit too. The person posted a video of it to show functionality. its in the archives somewhere. Someone should know about the thread I'm talking about?

10k might be alright. i'd like it to read past what i'm revving the engine to, but if i can find a stock cluster with 10k on it i may just go with that.

I think i saw a pic about what you were talking about. The company is called stack.
If your gauge cluster does not stop at 8000 rpm i would just keep the stock cluster. It would be more low key this way.

what i would really like is maybe a line of LEDS from green, then yellow, then red. something discrete i could keep in the gauge cluster, but that will be easy to see without taking my eyes off the track. i don't really want a big *** shiftlight that's going to blind me though.

Re: (SikofFalln)
that's exactly the kind of subdued look i'm going for. very nice. only thing is, i could just swap in a stock cluster like someone else said and still have the 10k redline without all the extra modification.
do you have a writeup of any changes or fabbing you had to do for that or is it all relatively straightforward?
btw, will that work in a 94 hatch or is that specific to a later car?

Re: (ssbpturbohatch)
i think i may just go with this tach/shift light combo. it's only 52mm and this way i can keep my stock tach and when it's time to go to the track i've got the shift light functionality tucked in with the aftermarket tach. should make for a nice clean setup that doesn't attract a lot of attention.

Re: (Diet Honda Civic)
I have this on my race car. You said you were looking for a LED style setup well this will work perfectly for you if you can find one. Datatool stopped making them from what I understand.

I know it says its for bikes but it works fine on cars aswell.

well basically u will have to do a little modification to the case of the cluster like get a plier AND brake some of the brackets that holds the temperature to make room for the tach
now dissamble the sunpro tach.
after that try and see if it fits where the temp gauge was and glue to the cluster face ... run ur wires like a normal tach and viola .........

Re: (TURBO-WAWA)
Why don't you just get an autometer shift light and wire it up? I personally like the monster tach but thats my preference.

Re: (hondakevin21)
i don't want an autometer shift light because they are ridiculous, like the monster tachs. you can see the entire interior of drag cars light up when those things turn on. no thanks.
with the stewart warner i can adjust the led's to not be obnoxious, and i can go back and watch the replay of the quarter mile run to see if i'm holding the gears long enough or not. then once i get used to driving the car by feel, i probably won't even need to look at the gauge anymore. that's the way it's always been with my other cars.
