it has been and mobil1 30wts. sucks. its a low viscosity energy conserving oil and it qualifies under ACEA A1 for fuel economy. if youre looking to save gas use an ACEA A1 oil.
if you want to use a 30wt. use one that is ACEA A3 for high perfrormance engines.
bmw synthetic 5w-30 and german castrol 0w-30 are both great ACEA A3 motor oil. i choose mobil1 0w-40 before id go with any 30wt. from M1.
motul is good. the 0w-40 8100 is better than the 5w-40 8100. lastly, i dont like royal purple b/c its isnt very shear stable. search some of the recent itr oil threads for some good info.

Re: synthetic oil... (ek2k)
If you want quality, the best is Amsoil. Its a lil hard to find, but use 5W-30 AMSOIL. They are the only oil that will outlast its filter. They actually reccomend intervals of 25,000 miles. This with their filter, which must be replaced every 12,500 miles. If your usin a natural oil, before you go to synthetic, do an engine flush, search for that, someone will give you a walkthrough for all this, but believe me its worth it, i switched and got a lower idle at cold starts. It helps with cold start wear. Vouch from a chrysler owner, 200,000 miles engine runs perfect, replaced the filter with a filled new filter every 25k miles.
