Re: (turkeyslow)
strut tower bushing. you may hear clunking when going over bumps. you can check it easily by pulling the shock/spring assembly out.
CV shaft. Mostly the CV Joint is what goes bad. When you turn to either side you hear a pop pop pop from the bad one(s)
Steering rack bushings. you might feel looseness in the steering and wandering. Raise the car and try to push pull the wheel from left to right by hand with the car off. If you feel looseness then it could be tie rods or steering rack.

Re: symptoms for these parts going bad (Civic_1337)
when doing the strut bushings do you have to compress the spring, or can it be done with basic tools?

if you are working on a strut with factory height springs then YES!
the last thing you want is the spring to de-compress and you can either hurt yourself or jam the strut and spring, or both.
my brother once did that on a factory setup. it was a pain to remove. took about a hour.
if you are on lowered springs, or coilovers, tehn not really.
just the fact you have to ask i would say use a spring compressor.
