Default Switching gears

Hey guys. I have a 99 Honda civic with manual tranny. I accidentally shifted into third gear today at around 24km/hr and I was wondering does it mess up the tranny shifting at high gear at such a low speed? Would it cause any problems shifting into high gear at such a low speed?

no it just causes the motor to end up in a less than desirable rpm and may cause it to stall

just like starting from a stop sign and the motor stalls if you dont rev it up before you let off the clutch

The car did not stall at all. I switched it back to 2nd in like 1 second.

Actually if you let it off (which would probably require a lot of clutch shredding) lugging the engine isn't exactly *good* for the car. Yeah, it's not quite to the extent that ramming it into 2nd going 85 on the highway, but constant lugging of the engine (using too high of a gear) will definitely degrade the life of the engine.

@ OP:
As he said, nothing bad will happen - constantly doing it (and I mean every single time you start off) will lower the life of the clutch and if you drag it enough to not stall, the engine as well.

But we're talking a ***-ton, like every day on a regular basis, if this just happened a couple [hundred] times it's perfectly okay.
