Default Sweet tool for gasket scraping/sound deadening removal

Bought it at autozone for like $8

Works great just slide it under the edge of the piece of sound deadening and hit the back with a hammer. Boom **** is done. Also worked good to scrape off the remnants of my intake manifold gasket the other day.

Just thought i'd share with everyone.

good find. just curious, did the label say what that tool is really specified for? it looks like a skinny putty knife

I don't know if I'd take a hammer and 'chisel' to ANY gasket surface....

I think he used the hammer on the tar, not the gasket

correct

hammer for sound deadening tar...

for gasket scraping i laid it so the sharp part was parallel to the gasket surface and used it to scrape the old gasket off. just like how you normally use a razorblade but way easier to hold...

i once saw in a ricer magazine, this one guy used crushed dry ice on the sound deadning material on the inside of the car... let it sit for a few minutes then hit it with a hammer and it breaks off in nice little chunks... ive been wanting to try it since...

someone try it and let us know how well it works... then you can toss that tool

My thoughts exactly. And it has been done on HT already. Do a search or check that lovely FAQ up top.

done that b4. but this tool is easier IMO, it took me like 5 mins to do all the sound deadening behind the front seats...

Yea, thats good for tar, but i advise against scraping say, a intake manifold gasket. Since its aluminum which scratches easily. Mine was paper, and yeah, took me a good hour and a half with the tip of a saraded knife and i didnt wanna acratch it, so that was a LONG ****** afternoon.

Thanks for the info on that knife though.
