Hey all.. I have a 99 DX hatch and im replacing the blown motor with a 98 spec Y8.

What exact ECU do I need?? I believe its P2P but I want to make sure first.

Thanks!! BTW does anyone know where I can get the oil pressure sensor? Thats on the VTEC solenoid?

Yep, Youll need a P2P in OBD2b which is 99-00. The ECU plugs are different on 96-98.

For the pressure switch, Try Ebay/ craigslist/ The Hondatech marketplace.

you need a obd2b P2p ECU which is smaller than the obd2a P2P...and the motor doesn`t matter if its 98

but your best option is to buy a jumper from obd2b to obd1 so you can use a p28

your going to need to do the iacv mod. 3 -> 2 wire, and also wire for vtec, Just search on HT you'll find a DIY. and Yes, obd2b p2p, motor year doesnt matter, but accesories like Distributor, alternator, etc. need to be tranfered over from your blown motor (y7), as they utilize the obd2b plugs i.e.: Alt plug is square(obd2b) instead of round(obd2a) IF IM NOT MISTAKEN, double check me on that, im running off 12:30am memory and its been a long day. Do your research, it shouldnt be a terribly difficult swap. GL.

Sorta, the '99 - '00 Y8s have a cold start assist/air injection setup on them and use a different intake manifold than the '96 - '98 versions. Should be workable though.

You can get an oil pressure switch here:
http://inlinefour.com/oembvtoilprs.html

Pretty sure all VTEC solenoids except K-series are identical, so this should work on any VTEC solenoid even though it says "B-series." To further back this up, I bought a VTEC solenoid gasket from the for a "B-series" and it fit the one on my D16Z6 just fine. Same part number and all.

You're probably better off buying used though for the oil pressure sensor. However, now you know you can use any of them as long as it's not K-series.

Too expensive, ive been seeing some OBD2B ECU's for $40. I would love to get a sweet tune but no funds. :/

Im kinda lost bro but im really interested.
So you are saying that the Y7 TB is 3 wires, then how many is the Y8 TB? I already bolted it up, but I dont see what else I need on it.
I run the wire for the VTEC to the ECU, then the VTEC Pressure switch has a special plug for it on the ECU?

Thanks bro! Do I gotta splice two wires together?

The shop where I bought the motor from gave me the VTEC oil switch. Thats $60 saved.
They also gave me the pulley, I dont think my D15B2 one will fit.

My friend gave me his IACV from his 2000HX, will it work?
And will a 5sp. 2000HX ECU work?

I finally got the motor in today but still not running.

What do I do about the whole throttle body issue? Do I have to have a Y8 TB?

Is my 99-00 DX harness plug and play, besides wiring the VTEC Oil switch and the VTEC solenoid?

If its a 2 wire intake manifold mounted IACV then yes.

No, you want a '99 - '00 EX ECU

Yes.

You will need to obtain a '99 - '00 EX (P2P) ECU and preform the IACV fix and wire in vtec, both shown below.

I had a question on this subject. I bought a OBD2B to OBD1 Harness with a chipped P28 ECU. Will I still need to wire up the IACV 3>2 for the TB?

Don't believe so, with the two wire IACV you can just leave one hanging from your harness, I forget which one... the orange wire I believe, again I would search HT and find out more info than I can offer.

Newbie here.. I had a quick question relevant to this post.. I just got a 98 ek and I bought the Y8 head with a si manifold, should I go with the P28 or P2P ECU?? Is there any advantages or disadvantages.. Thanks

if you have a Y8 head you don't have an Si manifold...

P2P ECU is plug and play, P28 requires a conversion harness

It came with the si manifold though.. I know about the wiring harness and all that, but is there any advantages of having the P28 over the P2P??

when i had problems with the IACV it just breathed funny at idle...started up no problem.

Don't just let the spare wire dangle. cover it somehow so it doesn't ground out against the firewall, i've blown a few fuses because of messy wiring.

I always used a P28 and it was easy as hell to socket. I either bought a chip or had a buddy burn one for me. I never used a P2P tho.
