Default swapping transmissions

i have a b16a3 motor w/stock tranny. If i buy either jdm/usdm itr or jdm ctr tranny, do i just slap it on, or do i have to get some extra stuff to make it compatable? Dont know about transmission swaps, so any info would help.

just curious why you would be doing this swap? the b16 tranny is a good tranny.

i believe the synchros are going out on second and fifth. and i think i have to change the clutch too. maybe start autox and track this summer, so... might as well buy a new tranny with lsd. Im trying to debate if its cheaper to buy, or replace synchros and install lsd in stock tranny.

If that's the case, I'd just get a CTR tranny. Same gear ratios, but with LSD. Unless you can rebuild your tranny yourself. If you can, then you should just buy the parts, and have a rebuilt one on the cheap. Be warned, however, good LSD's are not cheap

i need to learn, so if a new tranny doesnt have same gear ratio as stock, then what do i do to make it work.
how about i ask it like this. Can i buy an itr tranny and install it on my b16, or do i need to get extra stuff to make it work?

should be a straight swap. thats how it is with dseries engines at least. I am sure its the same with the b series. The different gear ratio doesnt matter when you swap, it will still work, just the car will drive differently.

Learning route?
buy a cheap ls tranny and use it while you rebuild your b16 transmission, while building it, order a 4.785 final drive and install it with a used ITR lsd. gear-speed.com has tranny rebuild kits.

Fun with ball bearings!

then sell the LS tranny.

Or you could just save yourself all the hastle and just get a ctr tranny. My fully rebuilt d-series transmission is going to cost me more than a jdm k20a dc5 ITR lsd 6-speed trans. But my d-series trans will be FULLY BUILT YEAHHHHHHH

ITR tranny > CTR tranny > B16 tranny period. For any instance of racing.

Have fun with autocross

lol whats so special with the CTR tranny? its the EXACT same as the b16 tranny + a lsd, you could get a LSD b16 tranny probably for cheaper then a CTR just because its not "CTR" B16B motors/trannies are expencive due to their rarity.
