swapping rear disc brake without upgrading the fronts - possible?
Sup guys.
I just picked up a set of teg rear brake setup. i was wondering if its possible to upgrade the back brakes without changing the front to teg brakes also.
if i decide to go this route, im assuming i wont need to swap out any bb, mc, or pv.
do people do this, or do they always do 4 corners? thanks

If you have rear discs already, in theory you shouldn't have to replace the proportioning valve. If you have drums back there, you really should replace the pv.
However, if the new pistons displace more fluid (as a rule of thumb larger calipers, with larger pistons, require more fluid to move the same distance) than your existing pistons, then the rears will clamp less forcefully than before. It would probably make for a net loss of braking power.
However, unless you're backing up, the rears really don't provide much stopping force, so it might not affect you... much...

Had this exact same set-up. Well my old set-up.
Yes, it's possible. No booster, m/c or proportioning valve need.

thanks for the replies. so this seems like what some people are doing.
the guy gave me a 40/40 pv with the teg rear set up when i bought it.
as for the MC, i might follow what ive read and get a 1991 ex 15/16.
btw - since i got the small up front, how much more stopping power would i get if i swapped for teg fronts also, as opposed to just putting on the rear disc and keeping the stock 9 inch fronts? thank you all and have a good night!

I ran a year with stock 9.5" fronts and rear disks without any problems. I didn't have to swap out anything. Bolt off and bolt on.
The only reason why I did this because shipping the knuckles to Hawaii costed a lot of money. I found a good deal on eBay and picked up Integra fronts. I now run all four corners.

You could go ahead with it, and if you don't like how it feels, get a wilwood adjustable prop valve to balance the system exactly how you like it.

The rears provide so little stopping force, I wouldn't sweat the rears all that much - having discs at all wheels lets you get an ABS setup going, have predictable behavior at all 4 corners (drums tend to lock easier than discs), but other than that... the rears don't do a whole lot.
If you want to stop faster, you need to concentrate on your front brakes. You don't have to, but if your objective is to stop quicker, due to weight transfer the rears don't do a whole lot - so you should concentrate on the fronts.
If you intend to upgrade the fronts later, and just want to get rear discs on there now to have them on there, I'd still replace the pv at the same time, just for safety's sake.
The worst you have to worry about when going from rear drum to rear disc without replacing the pv is that the rears may lock up prematurely. Obviously not a good habit to have, especially if you need to panic stop while turning, but if you're gentle on the brakes then you can get by without it. The question is - are you going to remember to be gentle in an emergency?

thanks for the help guys. i think i will replace all 4 corners since i am planning to swap out new springs and shocks at the same time.
i checked out honda motors online and they got what seems to be front teg knuckles for 75 bucks, fair price?
think i just got to do some reading before i buy the parts tho.
someone said teg front knuckles would throw off the camber because theyre longer, that true?
now i need to choose some nice springs and shocks!
