Default Swapping engines.... NEWBIE.. with questions

Hey guys, so i have a few questions about swapping engines. I have never done a swap before but done lots of mechanical work. I dont know anyone in my little town that does them, so i decided to come to HT and ask for help. Ive read around and could really find answers to the questions. And we be working with a eg6 body... thats where i wanna swap a engine. The two choices are b16a2 or b18c1

1st question is. I buy an engine online from and it comes with the ecu, wiring, axles, shift linkage...etc. So i would put that engine in the car, and hook up the wiring harnesss to the ecu. Is there anything else that i would need to do?

2nd the eg6 is obd1 and the engine might be obd2. How in the world would i convert to obd2?

3rd. How do i stay away from CELS if i use the engines original ecu and harness??

Thanks guys, these might be silly questions... but i will be doing this on my own if i decide to swap and would like to know what im getting myself into before i do it.

you would not be able to use the harness on the new motor, as it is set up for rhd.

Because the harness is backwards the plugs that are on the passenger side fender on a usdm would be on the drivers side. You can use the harness you will just have to extend wires for it to work.

B18c1 all day over a b16

Go look at the hybrid part of the forum and you will learn all you need to know and wont even have to make threads like this again. It is very easy to drop a obd2 motor into an obd1 car. Obd is a type of signal and is determined by the ecu not the motor. I have a 98 gsr swap in a 94 hatch with an obd1 p72 ecu. I just finished my gsr swap into my 94 vx two weeks ago. If anyone tells you you need an obd 1 alternator, distributor, and injectors are full of it. Now if you use a obd1 engine harness than you would because the plugs are different on those parts I just mentioned.

There is plenty of info on here so read up. Again it is a super easy swap. I had to rewire two wires and everything dropped in and fired up on the first try. Cars without vtec already will be a couple more wires but still super easy!
