Hey,

So my power steering rack is going out of commission. (Symptoms include, squeaking when turning, violent shaking of the steering wheel at 60+mph, hard to keep car stable, etc).

I bought a DC power steering rack from one of the guys here on Honda-tech. But it seems that this one has 1 more hole when compared to the EG steering rack.

Does anyone have more information regarding how to hook it up properly?

hey man is so easy to do this swap all u need is the rack and pinion and subframe together from 94 -00 integra..(the best gsr)is ur car antilock brakes??if so its gonna b a lil bit harder.. but if not is about 4 hours labor work and two man job (recomended) befor pulling off ur old one remove ur linkshift(auto or standar) make sure are simillar, remove ur wheels, etc u will see what u need to remove ... now instalation like ur civic Rack and pinion has 3 holes and ur integra has 2 all u need is to pull off one of the bolt tube i think is 14or 12 mm grench.. (from the civic one) and put it on ur integra rack and pinion and remove the one that comes from the Power steering reservoir looks like a S tube cancel that one all the way from the reservoir.. thats useless.. some people uses that integra reservoir but u dont really need to..
now ur power steering hoses install them back u will have two only put them back and the rest is history just put everythink back like u pull it off ill try to get some pics of my car tomorrow so u can see what im talking about in the power steering hoses

Spec of my car:

Powersteering: Yes
Transmission: 5-speed
ABS: No

From what I understand, power steering subframes are the same between both DC and EG and that I would not need to change the subframe.

Ahh okay, so the extra one going to the reservoir will need to be plugged up?

im not sure about the subframe from the civic i did my with the whole thing sub and rack .. and yes the xtra one has to be plug but ill try to get the pic tomorrow u well feel the big differences u turns will be the same as ur civic but the responds of the steer BIG differences .. well in my opinion i notice it big time

Oh yeah, the steering response is because of the higher LTL ratio which is exactly what I wanted.

For the extra line that will be hanging off, what did you use to plug it up? A Bolt?

yup i had problems with my too oil leaks,squeaking etc etc....so i decide to change my and i knew about the big differences in the steering so thats why it make me to swap from an integra .. and yup for the hanging hose i left it in there hehehe.. :D ill pull that off some of this days is not that really on the way or visual ...

i hope this helps man... good luck and just put a bolt or something... to plug the one hose from the reservoir tank let me know if u feels the differences

o i forgot as long as u plug the one from the reservoir leave the other one hanging it will not leak oil at all

Update:

Well I got the rack in. It was a little bit plug n' play. Some of the lines had to be rebent to fit into the new rack. Also, I did plug up the required hose coming from the reservoir.

Mental note, you must use the U-joint from the Integra rack, as the Civic U-joint is too small to fit on the new Integra rack.

Some problems:
There is still some kind of clunking noise when turning the wheel after everything was tightened down, going in for an alignment today and perhaps they can tell me the diagnosis.

Update for today: Got back from the alignment shop

All in all, alignment was way off. However, it seems that my car keeps floating from left to right (completely random) when I hit a bump or when taking off.

(*sigh*) This Integra rack is more problems then I could deal with. I have lots of play in my steering wheel, they said the steering wheel bushing might be out? Where exactly is the steering wheel bushing? I didnt see any.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance too!

Update: Ok, so I tightened the nut down and it still has play.

I am beginning to think that this rack that I purchased is major bunk. It was originally purchased from Typerman2001 (who coincidentally is banned from this boards for reasons unknowns to me).

Im going back to a rebuilt civic rack. This integra rack has just caused too much trouble for myself.

hey man is me again i read your update and i feel bad of whats happening to u ..but i have a question... (1) have u ever raplace the rack and pinion bushing?? the go where the 2 bolts tide together to the subframe(14mm)or the other one the goes in the passanger side?? u can see it at the second pic next from the reservoir thank. if those bushings are bad you are gonna have lotssss of play then ur bolts are gonna come lose and the pops... there goes ur treat from ur subframe... make sure u replace them just go to auto zone.. or any auto part store and ask for them and replace them ... see thats why i recomended to replace the whole thing cus that way u dont have to mess with the rack at all but keep the good work dont give up a car part is not gonna be smarter then u .. :D

The bushing seems okay. Im going to have Honda diagnose it (no fee) and then come back home and try to mess around with it.

Its odd, now im getting fluid leaks from overpressure where the power steereing fluid flows to the oil cooler coil and from the oil cooler coil. In your picture, the main tube which goes to the steering rack, was taken out and I ran the rubber tube directly to the valve on the steering rack (I took out that curving metal tubing - perhaps that is what restricts the power steering fluid pressure).

Also, at TDC, it seems to have a bump in the steering. Like when you get to a critical point, you can definitely feel the steering wheel go over a bump and then is able to go right....vice versa...if you are turning left pass the critical point, it goes over a bump and then turns left.

Ill check into that bushing. Thanks man!

but why did u run the rubber tube to the rack? did u plug the lil hose from the reservoir tank..??
