? ? Is swapping bottom ends on a B16A2 worthwhile ? ?
I've been looking at options for my civic lately. I have a '00 Civic Si and i've heard of some guys swapping just the bottom end to give them that 1.8 instead of 1.6. Is this a viable option for a perfectly functioning engine? I have no engine mods so far. Would i be happier just installing JRSC ? What kind of differences are there between these 2 options?

That would be an LS/VTEC setup you're hearing about. What you're doing is replacing your weak 1.6 bottom end, with a torquey 1.8 LS nonvtec bottom end. This makes for some good low end torque and high horsepower. Only have an experienced mechanic do this for you, unless you've done engine build ups and understand it all. Search and you can find out exactly what goes into an LS/VTEC build. But a JRSC would be a lot simpler bolt on to give you some pretty good results.

why are people so willing to mess with a new car? 00 Si and you wanna do a swap? WTF? Why you buy the Si in the first place then? Anyways.. I'm just ranting.
I'd do a SC or turbo before I do a swap.. I mean damn.... what a waste if you did a swap.. you engine is practically new.

i'm also kind of in the same situation, i have a jdm b16a bone stock, i've been thinking about LS and b20 blocks and go frankenstien but i hear things about oil problems and stuff. i know ls/vtec kicks ***! does it really make a differnce if i get a b18c1 block(stock) w/ my stock b16a head. peace

for a long time i was thinking about doing the same thing. this hobby of ours is not cheap. if you try to cut corners and go cheap...it's going to cost more later down the road.
first, i was planning to do a cylinder head work and get the works in it...port, polish, port match, cams, valve train, Ti retainers...the 9 yards...then i thought, it's a heavy *** chassis...why bother?
so now i still have my 2000 Si still stock (except for IHE mods), but i bought a 1992 Si hatch and i'm 80% complete with the motor build up on that...the whole project will cost me less than $6,000 including the hatch and motor buildup.
oh yeah, that includes suspension setup, LCAs, hondata stage II with tuning, head work, valvetrain, quaife LSD tranny setup, short block with high compression pistons, rods, machine work...etc.,
i think it's going to be reliable considering my pistons are only 11.8:1. not too bad i think, considering i got some hook ups on some parts.
just plan your setup out first and do it right the first time...take small steps on the project and do a lot of research before you spend your $$$...hope this helped out...
