Default Swapped in new Steering Column, Key won't turn

I removed my old steering column because it was bent and broken due to a previous theft.

Everything worked on the column before I removed it.

All I did was unbolt the column, removed the wires and the ignition switch, put them on the new one, plugged it in, and finished everything up. I went to start the car and the key will not turn in the ignition.. I have no idea why this happened, everything was a plug and play deal..

The only thing that I could see being a problem is the ACC wire has been cut and fixed with a wire connector, other than that, all the wires are in tact, and nothing is physically broken. It was too dark for me to mess with the ACC wire and check the other wires, but would the ACC wire keep the key from turning?

At this point I haven't done anything because I expected everything to work perfectly since I merely swapped things over...

Any Ideas?

Just a question but did you try turning the steering wheel? It could have gotten locked up and you need to push/pull it in a certain direction for the key to turn.....just a thought.

nah, it isn't locked, I know better than that ...

I can't see where anything might have happened when I was swapping it over, I unbolted/plugged and rebolted/plugged everything exactly as it was before.. who knows =\

The key will not turn at all.

Everything worked fine on the column that I removed, so I don't understand how it would mysteriously stop working when I bolted it to this column.. makes no sense... but thats how things goes with me...

anyone? I can't find the source of the problem... It makes no freakin sense...

Stuff like this always pisses me off.. I don't know where to start because nothing looks wrong. I guess this POS must have just been on its last start the last time I used it? I have no idea...

Hotwire it to an ignition button like the S2000.

Seriously, I wish I had some experience with this to help you.

bump for a solution.. I tried to lube the crap out of it to get it to turn, but no luck.. I am going to try and dis-assemble it and check everything out tomorrow then if I can't get it fixed I might have to either get a locksmith to look at it, or replace it (that will suck $$$)..

anyone else?

It's gotta be a problem with the lockout... I'd take it apart and make sure that everything lines up how it should... chances are that the lockout pin is not dropping when you put in the key.

your sure you put in in correctly?

Is the key in the same "off position " as before?

I have a helms for a 92-95 civic so I don't even know that that would help you... but I'm sure its a problem with the cylinder lock cylinder not being released by the actual steering wheel lock.

Im going out to fully remove the column and inspect everthing again.. If I can't fix it this time, hopefully a locksmith can.. lol

this would be my first guess, if the steering coloum was bent and broke, maybe the ignition switch is bent and when u put it on the steering colum thats not bent something isnt lining up correctly?

just a shot out my *** tho...

Thanks for the reply, I thought that too.. but I was wrong

I went out and removed the ignition, unbolted everything, sprayed it till it couldn't hold anymore lube, and worked it hard with the key... It finally popped in to the starting position and was able to move freely. I then sprayed it out with an air can and lightly applied a little more lube to keep it working right..

Thanks for all of the replies though....
