Default swapped civic hard start after fuel fill up

2000 civic dx just swapped a b18c jdm type r motor

every time i get gas and try to start it.. it starts and dies immeadeatly .. the second time i try to start it it struggles with an extended crank but it starts

im pretty sure it has to do with the evap system.. i have a picture of how i hooked it up.. .. i’m using the stock jdm p73 ecu.. the motor is obd2a but it uses an obd1 style emissions .. no purge valve.. i put a hose from the throttle body to the canister..
now in the pic where i put it on the canister is where the stock motor purge valve goes..
. just like how it’s setup on an obd1 car.. but maby it is affecting somthing

The canister purge needs to be closed off for starting / idling. I think you can connect the OBDII style valve to an OBD1 ECU. For testing, you can close it off all the time, though that will eventually cause gas vapors to appear under the hood.

It may not be that though. Try clicking the key on several times without cranking to prime the lines.

thanks for the reply.. maby i should post it in the hybrid section .. the jdm ecu doesn’t look for a purge valve so my harness for the purge valve is not connected to anything.. my car starts fine any other time just after i get gas.. i’m pretty sure it has somthing to do with the evap system but idk.. the nipple on the throttle body i just hooked it up to the canister is there any other options to try?

ok so i talked to a master mechanic he said it’s because i don’t have a purge valve so all the fumes are getting trapped and going to the intake and creating a rich condition.. he said to put a purge valve even tho it won’t function or cap them both off and see what happens

Next time you need to fill up, put a clamp on the hose to pinch it shut before filling and trying to start. If it still doesn't start easily, it's not that. If it does, just take the clamp off once started.
