swapped b18c1 into cx, valve cover touches hood
i've had this 92 civic cx for three years and recently started makin enough money to do something with it.
i had guy (chris) at ralliround in seattle swap in a b18c1. it's awesome. everythings running great.
the only problem i'm having is that the valve cover is rubbing on the inside of my hood...
i've noticed on some cars the hoods will be angled up slightly near the windshield? is this the fix for my problem? or is that more of a cosmetic thing? or are these other cars just modded so the hood opens forward?

Thats normal with a b18c1 swap in an EG. Just cut the area of bracing out that is touching the motor. Use a grinder or dremel with cutoff wheels.

Or you can just use the spacers to raise the hood in the back. That is if you don't feel like cutting the underside of the hood.

Really i never knew that
I always thought it was my radiotor hitting the hood thats why it was so hard to close
thanks

Or you could just leave it alone, not cut any structural parts of the hood and live with a small scratch on your hood and valve cover. If it starts to dent, that's a good indication that you need better motor mounts to control the torque of you engine.

The only problem I have with the motor sitting to high is that sometimes the hood is difficult to close and instead of dropping it I have to push down on it to close sometimes

It's weird, some people have this problem and some don't. Mine slightly hits my hood, but just barely. Other people I have seen have issues closing their hoods, and others have no problem at all. Anyways, if you wanna fix it and not cut out anything, easiest way would be to get out a hammer and hit around the area the valve cover touches. Take caution not to dent the hood itself, or else you will feel like a big *** and you'll have dents in your hood I used the hammer method on my car and haven't had any problems since

Yea. What this guy said. I had the same problem with my GSR. Only rubbed a little though. Anyways.

hahahha u said mines.
on a more serious note. i have ran into this problem with my friends car and customers cars. some hit the hood some dont. my friends car was bought brand new and given to him so we know for sure there were no crashes and his hood did hit a bit. i think its all in the hood alignment itself

yeah motor mounts are upgraded, so the movement is minimal.

Re: swapped b18c1 into cx, valve cover touches hood (miiek)
Yeah I checked out the car some more. It's really barely touching anymore. Frame and everything on the car is fine. There aren't any extra washers or anything on motor mounts. It happened to the guy who did the swap for me too. *shrug* I'm just gonna leave it. Mebbe if i repaint my valve cover i'll fix it.
Thanks for all the help guys. This was my first post and 15 people helped out with in a couple hours. Nice to know I got easy access to info on this car, sinec I'd like to start doing alot more work on it myself.

My hood did that when my buddies swap did the swap. Turns out they didnt completely tighten down the bolts on the motor mounts. Check them maybe?

exactly. I have a b18c and it used to touch slightly, so I screwed the two rubber endings near the headlights up to raise the hood slightly. It now works. However, when it did touch the hood it didnt rumble at all.....you might need motor mounts like stated above

nah it doesn't rumble or anything, and i got new mounts. they're way more firm than the old ones so the movement is really limited.

yup :-D :-D notice above pics. i drove it around with the original engine for 2 years. 70 whp i think. now with open headers i'm pushin 200. big difference from what i'm used to. i didn't really know you could make a civic go that fast with a 4 cyl.
