Im just toying with the idea of purchasing an early 90's civic coupe that either has an engine thats drove to sh*t or doesnt have an engine at all, then swaping something into it that will give it ***** ( beat an o2 wrx that my bro has), or better yet something that dips into the high 13's. For those of you who have done this, or know someone who has how much does a project like this cost? and is it worth it, or will I have to replace more stuff than jsut the engine/trans? and also where would be a good place to look for the car to do this project

any b or d series motor and alot of money...but personally i would do a B series and go turbo...oh and don't forget internals, having it sleeved for that extra boost, plus your fuel management...and u have to think about weight difference, are u planning on doing this with full interior or gutted?good luck though

Id probabaly wanna keep the interior so I can fit all my ladies in it and so it looks like a "sleeper". As far as the rest of that stuff goes im not too sure what it means but my moms bf is a mechanic so im sure he could help me. Would it be possible to get a fast car for around 5k? Im not the richest man in the world but i wanna haul ***.

with 5 grand u can get a GSR motor for about a lil over 3 then u still have to do internal work getting the block sleeved so it would have stonger walls to hold the boost..pistons etc etc..do u have the car already?

Nah, in fact i should change my sn because I dont even have my 99 civic ( i sold it like a dumbass). Right now I have a 02 ex that im thinking about letting my mom take over so i can get a faster car that has stick shift. When i got the 02 i wasnt into stick or else i prolly woulda just did a swap on my 99. Getting rid of my first civic was a huge mistake that pisses me off. Anyways isnt a d16 a normal civic engine ?

I have a boosted ls in a 92 si full interior. Running 7 psi and nicely tuned with uberdata. SMOKES 02 wrx's hands down. I haven’t ran in the 1/4 but my buddy who had the exact same setup (from whom I got the turbo kit) ran a 13.1 with drag radials.

3000 for the car
1500 for the turbo kit
500 for the motor
500 for the tranny
25 bucks for uberdata.

Total = $5525

Its all in the tuning, If you tune it right and keep your a/f ratios correct you can run 7 or more psi on stock internals with no worries.

thats the kind of estimates i like to see... much easier to understand. im guessing that labor isnt included in this total right?

getta 92-95 bubble shell for like a grand +/- and then dump in a gsr with I/H/E
throw on intake manifold/throttle body and cams and that car will pullllllllll you will taking out more than wrx's

if your patient and resouceful with your money you could prob get this done with 5 grand

wheres the best place to look for these parts? i prolly wont begin the project right away so i should have pleeenty of time to do my research- i dont wanna buy the wrong stuff again too.

before I had the turbo, my b16a with a bunch of bolt ons put down 164 to the wheels and was still running super rich, and that was on a 97* day. I read once that a stock wrx only puts about the same but it much heavier. Never had the chance to race one though.

depends on how I get rid of my 02, I kind of let my mom and her bf down by promising to pay for it but now i dont want it anymore. If i can somehow pay a couple grand off on it, or somehow get my mom to want it then he would probabaly do the swap for free since hes pretty cool. Id prolly offer him something though since he already put an engine in my bros old 88accord and i doubt it was the funnest thing in the world for him. wish i could just come up on a bunch of cash.

Boosting is the best way ever. Im going to build a D15/Z6 head for 20psi of boost, im sure that would take on a STI pretty good.

But boost the Z6, its a cheap motor, goes right in and youll have plenty for turbo/internal parts.

well since your from OC i would imagine you could find some real good deals on this site since alot of the members are from cali..check out the classifieds section but heres some good products:
intake: AEM cold air or short ram are very dependable and have good power gains
exhaust: i prefer APEXI n1 or ESPELIR JT500 ive had good experiences with both
header: DC sports most bang for the buck
cams: something like skunk2 stage 1 or 2 since this is most likely your daily driver
intake manifold: skunk2 or JGedelbrock are very good
throttle body: STR

just some stuff to think about...good luck
