Swap Time and a few questions

Swap Time and a few questions
Well after driving the stock single cam for a while now I've decided its time for a swap. The problem is anything around me is either too much for what it is or it has 90K miles or more. So I would like to purchase online from either hmotors or jhpusa.
I've looked at the b16b, but after reading numerous posts about it lacking torque and everyone wanting more power, ive decided against it.
This leaves me with either the b18c5 or the h22 euro accord motor.
Which would you guys suggest? Alot of people go the the type-r but the h22 has more hp and tq to begin with. Is there a reason you dont really see anyone running them? Is the b18c5 worth the almost $5K price tag?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Hopefully its not too redundant of a question. Even though its my first post I tried not to sound like a noob.

Re: Swap Time and a few questions
I'm personally a fan of the B series. I guess that's because I have a JDM GSR swap in my EK. The swap was fairly simple and straight forward. I even got it to pass BAR in CA on my first attempt.
As for the H22, I hear it does require some modifications to the shifter area for the shifter cables (I might be wrong). Not sure how it does doing up against a B series, you might want to youtube that one.

The good thing about where I live is I dont have any smog tests or DEQ. I will try looking on youtube for h22 swaps. I'm just not sure if the type r is worth the extra 1000 over the h22

Re: Swap Time and a few questions
A lot of people seem to forget to look beyond the initial cost of the engine and transmission when comparing B to H swaps in civics. The upfront cost of an H22 is cheaper, however it has a lot of added costs over a B-series swap. An H22 swap requires either custom fabricated mounts or that you buy a mount kit, theres money spent, a B-series just drops in with OEM mounts. Then you have to look at axles, you need custom axles (you can get away with combinations of prelude and integra axles in lieu of buying proper swap axles, but its still going to cost more than B-series axles) with an H-series swap. A B-series simply requires B-series axles. More money spent. If you want to retain A/C and/or power steering you'll need to buy an aftermarket A/C compressor bracket for the H-series, and you'll need to fabricate some custom power steering lines. Even more money spent, again the B-series will use OEM honda parts. When it comes right down to it the H-series really isn't that much cheaper, plus you'll still have other issues like a poor axle angle on the H-series.

Re: Swap Time and a few questions
If it was me thats the way i'd go. It is less power, but when its done it looks stock and its done with all OEM parts so it should be every bit as reliable as stock, in the end the big trade off is the added power of the H22 vs the reliability of the B18C5. You could also drop in a GS-R for a fair bit less and be making close to the same power as the Type R.

Its going into a 99 coupe. I've been looking at all the posts in the all motor dyno thread and trying to find track times. I know anything is better than the stock single cam, but I just want to make sure its reliable and worth the money. I will be running n/a and want to keep it as reliable as possible while still being fast.

Its the initial cost that is whats hard to swallow, ya know? The complete changeover through hmotors is $2000 more for a type-r over a jdm gsr

I've thought about that, but would rather go NA. And if I really want to boost later down the road I would already have a dohc to start with then.

Re: Swap Time and a few questions
In my mind it comes down to this. If you never have any plans to build the engine then go with the type-r, if you plan to turbo, or build a high compression N/A engine then its a complete waste of money since you'd be replacing everything that made the type-R special in the first place.

Re: Swap Time and a few questions
I'm thinking that the jdm gsr sounds like a good option. It has decent power to start with and I would have the ability to build the head and tune the ecu later this year. It comes stock with 10.6:1 CR and between the headwork and a different head gasket, it should be a little over 11:1 as I really dont want to mess with the bottom end yet.
