Swap Issues - D to B

Okay, ill try and explain this as best as i can.

We just swapped a B16 from a 2000 SiR into my buddys 98 which had a D16y8 in it. The B harness was all hacked and cut up cause we got it from a wrecker, when they removed it they just cut everything prettymuch.

So we used the D16 harness, everything plugged in all the plugs were the same - except the alternator plug, distributor, and the injectors. So we took the Alt, dizzy, and injector plugs off the cut B harness and saudered them onto the D harness.

We go to start it, it struggles to start just turns over, fires a few times. Then the second time i turn it over it starts up slowly, idles real rough and runs real rough, then starts to rev up a bit like any car does on a cold start. I let it run for about 10 seconds, then i shut it off.

I tried starting it again and it kinda fired maybe 2 or 3 times, but didnt actually start. Now nothing. It wont start or even fire period.

We pulled the plug wires and stuck a plug inside them, no spark anymore.... Not sure why....
We havent plugged in the primary o2 sensor yet cause its gotta be lengthened. Pretty sure its thrown some codes already.

Does ANYONE know wtf is going on here..lol. Please help.

.

this is ur prob

sounds like u are using a OBD1 harness with a obd2 motor buy a obd1 dizzy and inj and put ur clips back on harness and plug in

nope i dont think so. The D harness is from a 98 civic, d16y8, which 98 is obd2a. The motor that put in is obd2b. But we got a obd2a to obd2b conversion harness.

Re: Swap Issues - D to B

well either way then u have wrong parts

either get obd2a dizzy for motor, and inj

or get obd2 harness and put plugs back on like said in my op

either way u need to match all parts to same OBD

Re: Swap Issues - D to B

hmmmm. Didnt think obd2a and obd2b would be that much different. Just doesnt make sense that it started and ran for a bit though

jdmh22eg2 05-21-2010 10:13 AM

Re: Swap Issues - D to B

it may have ran for a bit but NOT right any time u really have to soldier in on dizzy u loose efficency

Re: Swap Issues - D to B

I guess that makes sense. Thanks alot for the info.

Or could we try and find an uncut obd2b harness for a b16 and replace the entire harness right down into the firewall to the ECU?

Re: Swap Issues - D to B

yea that would be best way to go i prefer correct parts complete when i can

Re: Swap Issues - D to B

Any idea where we can get an uncut b16 harness?

Re: Swap Issues - D to B

ummm it is pricey but Rywire can hook u up with a ganster tuck harness

if factory man i really dont know maybe call ppl like hasport and so on, and check inlinefour.com <<< think that is site addy

Re: Swap Issues - D to B

How is that mix-matching? OBD2b motor, buy the OBD2b harness thats supposed to be for it, Running the ECU thats supposed to be running this motor, which is also OBD2b. Shouldnt that not work? lol

Re: Swap Issues - D to B

i also think but not sure a 99-00 is obd2b so if u can find one being parted that is what u need i think not sure i dont play with obd2 i always go back to obd1 runs much better and can't tune obd2 ecu's

sorry that post came in waaaaay after the solution was made. thats why it was deleted. it isn't mix matching at that point anymore.

lol yeah the 96-98 civics are OBD2a, and the 99-00 are OBD2b. So the motor we put in is OBD2b cause its from a 2000. Were running it with a 98 OBD2a harness.

And...agreed. OBD2 is junk, thats why i converted to OBD1 in my prelude. Hondata s300 babbyyy :P

in the same post you said "96-98 civics are OBD2a" then "Were running it with a 98 OBD2b harness"... its probably just a typo but maybe something that was overlooked

ok for future ref. you just swap the injecters and the dizzy, dont start cuting and saudering when you dont have to
