so i have a 93 civic hatch DX

the non V d series in it isn't cutting it at all
I absolutely going to swap
but what should i do?

i've been getting a lot of people saying b20

but i personally wanna go gsr or b16a2
but it looks like b20 is the cheaper route

any other recommendations?

any block/head combos i should consider?

i want power and i want to be able to daily drive it.

help me out

boost that d, or do a gsr swap...although the boosted d from my personal experience is alot cheaper, and provides alot more power, not done yet but in the process...don't go b20 my buddy has a b20z, the good one, in a 93 coupe and lost several times to a gsr teggy...

gsr swap is going to be more reliable (since it doesn't have that turbo putting extra stress on the internals when you get on it)

B20 wont fit without a LS IM and, in your car ECU, IM, TB, Dizzy, Injectors, engine harness and Alternator needs to be OBD1. So putting a low reving low hp motor in with all those changes is kinda silly. Most people that are telling you B20....they are most likely talking about a B20VTEC which is a hole other ball of wax (and tons more money to build it correctly....correctly...correctly). Do you have a specific amount of money in hand or is this a future thing? B16A2 is OBD2 as well.....so it would need relatively the same OBD mod's are needed to make it work too. Complete OBD1 swaps should be your focus....or plan on shopping and treasure hunting for various parts to convert an OBD2 motor over. Anyone says OBD2 is possible they are right but its a pain in the *** and takes way more then a straight OBD1 swap

i have a 97 crv b20 with a obd1 wiring with a type r head and it out runs gsr and b16 all day

well i was able to pic up a vtec head for the single i have
but i was just reluctant to put it in but ive heard of some
people boosting the dseries and getting some good power out of them
around 14's without touching internals

now if i was to put the vtec head i know i would have to swap the ecu too
would the p28 do the job?

ok the best thing you can do is get a complete swap from a supplier like Hmotors, i would go with a B16A swap (from JDM EG's) and if your happy with it just use that, but if its not enough power then buy a B20Z drop in cheap rs machine type r piston and put the B16 head and tranny on it and youll have a best csapable of running low 12's without spending over 4 grand.

It takes about $1,000 to build a Non-VTEC B series bottom end for a VTEC head and reving 2k rpm's higher (Frankenstein) Then you need to find a good machinist that builds these high rev'ing Honda motors. (Bearing clearances seem to be key...and ARP bolts) Shot peen LS rods should be the minimal priced rod you use. P30 is a great piston in an LS (piston ring gap and clocking is key)....aftermarket piston would be my pick for a B20, Not building an Non-VTEC and putting type r pistons in will work...until a bearing goes. Or...just stay below 7k and you'll be fine....but who in their right mind would do that? lol
