Default Swap help!

My friend recently gave me a D15B7 for free and I need to know what I need and what I need to do to swap it into my 99 Civic. The D16Y7 in there now is going to crap out as it burns a crap load of oil and is mis-firing. I know my motor is OBDII, and the D15B7 is OBDI, so will the B7 line up with the Y7 trans, it's axles, the ECU and sort? Thanks

Axles (make sure you use ABS ones though if so equiped) and trans will work fine. The timing belt side mount is different.

Bump for info about mounting.

Nightmare swap.

Good luck adding all of the necessary OBD2 crap to the OBD1 engine.

You'd need to basically do the following:

Run the 99 Civic engine harness and try to use all the accessories such as intake/exhaust manifolds (if they bolt up - not sure), alternator, starter, etc.

Use the stock D16Y7 ECU

Find a solution for the distributor - If the 99 dizzy bolts to the B7 then great, but if it doesn't...uh oh

Do the CKF sensor trivk to fool the OBD2 ECU into thinking you've got a CKF sensor (the B7 doesn't and there's no way to retrofit one to my knowledge)

Click Here and Follow OBD2B Instructions

The tranny, axles, etc. will bolt up and work the same.

I'm a big fan of staying with the right OBD generation because I've seen too many horror swaps when people try and swap OBD1 D series engines into OBD2 Civics, but maybe you could be an exception?

Will work.

I thought my post was clear enough....

B18C5-EH2's post will reiterate.

B18C5-EH2 pretty much said it all. Its generally not a good idea, however it can and has been done. If I remember right non vtec OBD1 distributors share the same mounting flange as all OBD2 distributors. Even if they don't simply swap the 3 sensors between the distributor cases.

Thanks guys, I think it would be better to stick to OBDII engines. I recently came across a D16Y8 for sale out of a wrecked Civic. This is a direct replacment right? Everything will work with eachother and line up? I know what I will need an ECU from a D16Y8 for VTEC but will my Y7 ECU run the Y8? Thanks again

The 99-00 Civic D16Y8 would be a direct fit, but the 96-98 D16Y8 will have some differences in wiring/sensors like the distributor plug, IACV, etc.

To keep it as simple as possible try to find a 99-00 D16Y8 or D16Y7.
