Default swap electrical help!!! noob question

ok guys, im fairly new to swaps and basicaly a noob in electrical wiring.

well here is the story, i bought an 01 itr motor not to long ago to do a swap into my 98 ek dx model. ALso, i didnt use my stock harness and went with a 99-00 si harness for the motor. so finnally my friends and I got the motor into the car to run and everything.....

but then for some reason,on my cluster, the rpm, and speed odometer are not engaging. for example when i rev, the rpm does not rise. Also when i test drived the car, the speed odometer was at zero and wasnt showing how fast i was going. so I dont know...

I read the FAQ of Katman thread of EK wire in b-series. But, I dont know if i am misreading it or not, but if i am correct( taking a wild guess here) i will need a obd2a to obd2b jumper? Also i can find any related problem that occured like mine.

I am running currently running a p2t on the motor, but planning to run the itr ecu( immbolizer removed by katman)

SO i dont knwo if the ECU is bad? the Harness? I am stuck guys, so help me out here

Thanks in advance guys i really need my DD asap, didnt expect the swap to stall for 1 week

x2 ^ i dont think you can use a 99-00 engine harness with a 96-98 floor harness.. both have to be the same year.

floor harness can be 96-98 or 99-00.. power doors wont work but they wont affect the cluster. its the main underdash that needs to be changed to an obd2b harness from a 99-00..

thanks guys,

so according to what you guys are saying my dash harness in the car has to be changed to a 99-00 harness?

i was reading the thread that katman had, and he said that, changing the dash harness route is alot harder, is that my only route that i have or are there eaiser ways to do it? I havent really serached yet, but will the obd2a to obd2b jumper work?(I dont know if they have these for sale)

geneeunit, hey I'm a bit confuse by what u said by the underdash main? what u mean by that? change the whole underdash harness too like what the other two suggested?

thanks guys, i really appriecaite it!

where is your old engine harness? you can use that .. or try to repin the part that connects to the under dash to work with the 96-98

FYI the OBD2a :OBD2b jumper harness has nothing to do with the under dash

just use a 96-98 5spd ex harness, thats the right way to do that swap. then if you want to use an 00-01 type r ecu you need the 0bd2a to obd2b ecu jumper. Youll also need to take care of the immobilizer on the 00-01 ecu. Thats the easiest way, if you'd rather take the dash out and replace that harness than have a blast.

is it easy to repin the part that connect to the underdash? or is it hard to do so?
recommand for a first timer? or someone who have already done so to do it? any diagram will be helpful....

Thanks a lot guys...

okay guys, after re-reading the FAQ carefully i think i may have found out my problem, i just want you guys who knows it forsure to comfirm it for me.

okay here it goes, the harness i have is a 99 si harness in a 96-98 car, so it will be difficult to make my rpm and speed meter to work becuase of the underdash harness being a 96-98 and me using my si ecu. SO there are only two plugs plugging in the ecu and I needs three.....I think the reason why my speed is not working is because the third plug the "C connecter" on the ecu is not plugged in.

so in order for everything to function CORRECTLY, i will have to either get the 96-98 ex harness or re-wire my 96-98 dx harness to work, and that IS THE ONLY WAY???

so please, anyone who had have experience with this confirm this.

and so, if i change the engine harness back to the my 96-98 harness and do some re-wiring for my vtec sensor etc( info from FAQ sections). my cluster odometers, should engage and the rpm, speed etc odometer should work.

please someone who knows and deals with these type of info confirm this....if this is correct will i be able to drive the car yet is it safe?

oh yea, also, IF I want to reuse my itr ecu with the immbolizer removed, i will have to repin the the plug, something about a15 to a16 vice versa, and i will THEN need the jumper conversion?

the jumper conversion is for putting a 96-98 ecu in a 99-00 civic, not to use a 99-00 engine harness in a 96-98 civic. do it right or dont do it at all

hey speedoo, can u clarify what u are saying to me?

i dont get what ur getting at about the jumper? from the FAQ section of the " gathering ek section" it says that if i wanted to use a ecu from the 00-01 integra model while using the 96-98 harness i will need to use a jumper harness.

here what it says,

"4) If you plan to use a 99-00 Civic or 00-01 integra ecu into a 96-98 EK civic, you will NEED a OBD2a->OBD2b jumper harness adaptor. Reaonsbeing is that OBD2a & OBD2b ecu plugs differ and are incompatible with each other. A handful of people sell this type of ecu jumper here, including me."

thanks speedoo, also is the car safe to drive with the "c connecter" being unplug?

you can repin the ECU plugs to OBD2b.. which most people wont because theyre scared little girls when it comes to wiring.

or you can be typical and get the conversion harness for OBD2a to OBD2b which is what the majority of people do.

NOW THATS IF YOU CHANGE THE ENGINE HARNESS BACK TO A 96-98 HARNESS..

or you can swap the underdash to a 99-00..

and if anyone says you cant swap the underdash harness, trust me.. ive done it.. ive helped numerous people do it.. and its really NOT HARD at all. people are just lazy. and try searching more, ive posted countless times about this and the benifits/cons of the different solutions. if you need some help, PM me.

you have it backwards...thats to use a 99-01 ecu in on a 96-98 harness. you have a 99-00 harnss in a 96-98 car, one plug from the engine harness o the main harness does not connect and thats why your cluster doesnt work
