Default Swap effect VIN#?

I am looking at a 92 DX and I want to swap a JDM B18c1 in. This may sound dumb but does this effect you vin # where as when you get insurance on it, they will know about the motor swap and increase your insurance? Just wondering if it will affect my insurance rates. thanks.

i think it all depends on your location, here where i am i got into an accident the day after my swap was done and the insurance looked at it and thought it was great. but i have heard other places are gonna be dumb about it. just go ask your insurance company

they dont look at any vin#'s for insurance.

dont tell them anything they dont need to know.....if you plan on putting full coverage on it for whatever reason, keep the reciepts for anything you buy, so if your car gets stolen , they can pay you back up to $5,000 in extras that you put into the car, most ins co's have this available. just keep the reciepts....my friend had the same car as you and he had air suspension, system, kit, rims, paint. etc etc it was a showcar winner... he got $10.000.00 back when it got stolen..... but hey better than nothing

i think all insuracen companies ask for a vin but i doubt they will check your motor to verify the vin matches. how can they, so many cars(not just hondas) get motors replaced for whatever reason. like said above, tell them what they need to know not more.

They won't ask about any motorswaps or anything. That won't affect your VIN nubmer any. But remeber that if something were to happen to your car than they'll only give you the value of the car with the stock motor. Insurance company isn't going to give you more money for something that you didn't report to them or didn't purchase extra coverage for. I just go with liability b/c if i get in a wreck i can fix it myself, also i only paid $900 for my Civic with a B18b already swapped in. If i were to wreck it i woulc pull the motor and toss it in another civic.

Ok thanks for all the information. I will talk to my insurance company about the adding parts things. If they won't cover everything on the car, I will find a different insurance company.
