Default Swap a D16Z6 for a D16Y7? NEED HELP!

Hello everyone!

This is my first post here, but I read a lot already and I have to thank you all for the great information in here.

Iīm from Brazil and I have a 94 EX coupe. Clean car, exept for the engine...
I did some research for the answer to my question, but I donīt think this is a common thing to do. Anyway, my question is: Can I swap my D16Z6 for a D16Y7 and use my P28 ECU? I know it will complain abou the vtec solenoid but Iīm wondering if it will work... Still, I know I can use manifold, exaust and tranny from de Z6, but thereīs something else I should know to make this work?

PS: And of course I will put the vtec head in, but not just now, I have to keep the car running...

Hondas are not much common in here and so this Y7 was the best deal I found for a decent, clean and low mileage engine (still costs about 1800 USD)...

What happend (if you care to know):

I was driving home, in a normal day, shifting from 2nd to 3rd (~2500 RPM) when a clanky intermitent metal noise pops from engine. At first I thought it was some loose exaust pipe, but when I got home I opened the hood and thereīs the noise when itīs about 2000~3000 RPM. No smoke from the exaust, not loosing oil pressure, no noise idling. When itīs started cold in the morning, thereīs almost no audible noise and it only shows when itīs passed 2000 RPM. Car runs normaly with no other simptom exept the clanky metal noise at some rpm that sometimes get louder and sometimes lower. My best guess is a rod bearing that decided to give up. Engine have about 110k miles on it.

what fuel are you using sounds kinda like detonation?

Ouch 1800 id check ebay or just rebuild your motor just rebuild my z6 for 865 (complete new pistons rings bearings and top end) Also the Y7 is obd2 and not VTEC the Z6 is VTEC obd1 and a better motor overall

Default Re: (jimmy o.)

It could sound like detonation, but it would be a very extreme detonation that could only show with a bad head gasket. Thatīs the only second option besides the bad bearing. Also I retarded the ign. point half way down, itīs probably like 6 or 8 degrees I think, and the noise sounds lower now!

Ebay is not an option for me, shipping would be like 1000 USD an take 3 months to get here. And I could rebuild it, but since I have to import all the parts (actually cheaper then buy here) and pay 100% tax over price+shipping, it gets more expensive than buying the engine.

I know that the Y7 is obd2, but if I use all the parts from the Z6 itīll work right?

PS: I use regular gas, as I read here that wouldnīt make much diference using the better ones.
