Swap-able parts...differences between B16 to B18c5..... ??????
Ok.....
My question basically consists of two parts....
#1. Can all the parts from my B16 block swap over to the b18c5 block? This includes timing belt covers, sensors, coolant connecting pipe (thermostat). oil cooler ect ect ect...... I'm asking because I'm thinking of getting a NEW C5 block from acura and they only come with the block, pistons, rods, oil/water pump, and oil pan.... everything else needs to be installed.
#2. does milling the head affect the timing belt tension at all?
sorry for posting such a noob question/s but I couldn't find a straight answer from the search...

1 yes.....but a c5 block uses an oil cooler....your b16 may or maynot have an oil cooler.....tbelt cover might be shorter on b16.....
2 yes and no....does not affect tension on the belt if it is NOT MILLED TOO MUCH!!! it will affect where the cam gears line up when pulley is put at TDC....

Well, I have a 99 si which i thought oil cooler. My main concern with with the timing belt covers, and the milling issue. I will be milling .020 or .030 to make up some compression. and that is the only problems I can think of with this kind of swap.
It's a block swap.
how to you compensate for the the pulley's being off TDC?

#2. does milling the head affect the timing belt tension at all? (Not really, think about how little you are taking off.)

i beleive the obd1 94-95 gsr motors had them. m7 95 gsr motor had one and my 01 gsr motor does not. my friend has a 96 gsr motor and he does not have one either.
oh yea if you are milling the head in hopes of upping the compression i dont think that is realyl a smart way to achieve compression goals...do it the right way with pistons and rods other wise you will change where the cam is with the crank at TDC.
if you mill the head to change compression you are going to probably need adjustable cam gears to get your tming back to normal.

I know for a fact that the 99 SIs didn't come with oil coolers. (I have one and bought it brand new off the lot) I also know for sure that the 00 itr shortblocks from Acura come with an oil cooler. (I have one I bought from Acura)
