Does this look right to you?





I have a set of Ksports coilovers, 10f 7r, and I just recently noticed the tops looking like this. Is this something I should be worried about? I've had the coilovers for less than a year and they've been on the car for only a couple months.

The car in question is a 98 Civic 4 door, and the car is lowered to 1 finger gap all around. The coilovers were put on by a reputable shop, but they seem to bottom out a lot (even though I don't think I'm that low).

Do these pictures show damage? Could my shocks be blown already, and what are good ways to find out if they are?

Could either the car's height or the extra weight of it being a sedan cause these bubbles?

Please, anybody let me know if these bubbles are ok or if my coilovers are damaging my car, and if so, what I can do to fix it.

I have never seen anything like what you are describing, but it doesn't look good. That shock tower looks f*cked up to me, and those shocks look like they don't come up through the hole enough, but maybe that's how they're made?

I agree the shocks don't seem to be far enough through the hole, make sure they tightened all the bolts and nuts

those aren't stock top spring perches so they may not stick out of the body as far as the oem ones, looks like a good amount of mounting bolt is through so i think it's okay. i don't see what bubbles you are referring to. if you are talking about the body sealant, that is normal.

Yes, those bubbles are just sealant that is globed on where the chassis has been reinforced with an extra layer of steel.

The spot you need to watch out for is where the two dots are at the highest point of the shock tower towards the fender. This is a special space that the UCA tucks into. If you are too low, or have a camber kit that pushes the UCA outwards, the UCA can crash into this area and dent it's way into the engine bay. Yours look perfect...

OK thanks a lot everybody. Yeah, they are coilovers, not the stock suspension. I was just worried that it was breaking its way through, but if that is just sealant, then I think I'm ok.

Just one other random question, what exactly does it mean to bottom out? I don't know exactly what that is so I don't know if I'm doing it or not.

Bottoming out is when your suspension reaches the end of it's compression stroke. Normally this happens when the shock comes up & hits the bump-stop. Once you start modifying things, this can change. If you don't have enough bump-stop, the shocks piston can bottom out on the inside of the shock (this destroys the shock BTW). If you have too much compression stroke, the car will bottom out when the UCA hits the shock tower (this ruins the upper ball-joint BTW). If you cut holes for your UCAs to travel through, you can bottom out when your chassis hits the ground...
