Default Suspension.. need some help (pics inside)

hey guys so i just recently blew my shocks and ordered some tokico hp's but they dont fit into the damper fork at all. i even bored it out and it still will not properly fit and i tried stretchin it and that didnt work either. i called tokico and they said it was the right shock. so my problem is my car has been totalled once and i dont know if the damper fork is the stock one. is there any way of telling if i had the stock damper fork? buying a new shock is about the same as buying a new damper fork so what should i do? i dont want to buy a new shock and have it not fit the fork again!

btw its a 97 ej6 (ek hatch)

my setup... AND my bent rim

hey jdminc thanks for the website. i was lookin at it and on the fork for 96-00 on the front of the fork it says AL and on mine it says KL. does this mean i somehow have the wrong damper fork?

From the looks of the picture you either have the wrong shock or wrong fork. I've NEVER had to ream out a shock fork to make a shock fit into it. They will always fit snug in there but in no way should you need to ream it out.

Yea, I have HP's on my car and i didnt have to Ream out the strut fork.
OP, did you take the paint off the HP shock where it goes into the strut fork?
Id like to assume that any 92-95 and 96-00 strut forks are the same seeing that HP blues are sold for 92-00 civics. On 92-95 the brake lines hook onto the shock.
Maybe a dumb question but did you line up the little tab on the shock with the little indent on the strut fork? Is the bolt out of the strut fork? That will keep it from going in also.

How far off is it? Can you take an overhead picture? Possibly from the car being in an accident is somehow ovaled the strut fork opening.

Also, Get a Caliper and measure the HP Blue strut with the stock strut, see what the difference is.

hey ifiexplode yes i took off the thin layer of paint to get a few thousands inch off to hopefully make it easier to fit. yeah i did line up the tab it wont even go far enough in. it wont go in with the bolt in or out. its not very far off but enough to the point where it wont fit. yeah ill go take a pic.

If you can get your hands on a caliper that would really help in finding out what is out of spec. If the HP strut and your stock strut are similar measurements then its probably the strut fork, Im amazed you got the bolt out of the strut fork, I just bought new strut forks from the dealer, 180 dollars was worth it to me to be able to put all new together.

yeah man i dont have caliper, when i first bought the shocks i called tokico and they same it was the right shock for my car. my car was also tottalled when i bought it and i dont know what the guy did to it so it might be the wrong fork? but they are the same on both side. why couldnt you get out the bolt?

To be honest, I didnt even try to get the bolt out. I thought this car is 11 years old. My luck theyre going to snap off so i just bought new, My rear LCA bolts broke. Honda god telling me to f*ck off i guess.

You can get a caliper for like 12 dollars.

There is a drivers side and passanger side fork, but that shouldnt have anything to do with it not fitting in the strut fork, Have you tried to put the shock you took the paint off in the other strut fork or do you only have one side apart? Im gonna go outside and look at what markings are on mine. Theyre new from Honda.

OK, Drivers side says AL and passanger side says AR

oh yeah bro i hear you on that one the first time i tried to get it off i even used a breaker bar and that **** wouldnt come loose so i soaked it in liquid wrench over night and it came loose the next morning. i was gonna try to try it on the other side but i figured it wouldnt do me much to take it apart and figure out it didnt or did work cuz i would still need to get a new one ha damn mine says KL i must have the wrong one i wonder what mine are from. whats your ride?

My car is a EJ6 also, But a coupe and not a hatch. Same exact thing as your car.
I dont know what the KL is for. I know integras have strut forks. Maybe there is an integra strut fork on your car.

I bet you can take apart the other side and your shock would slide right in there.
Now, Is the strut fork thats not fitting on the passanger or drivers side? I know the drives side strut fork is more expensive than the passanger, Why? I dont know, Even the guy at the dealer thought it was strange. If it was me. Id tear the other side apart. Its not like the car is moving anywhere. haha.

oh sick man. yeah mines Ej6 hatch

yeah i was thinking maybe integra too but its hard to figure out because when i call Honda they cant really give me any information. yeah i dont know if the passenger side would work either because last time i took the passenger side wheel off to adjust my coilovers i remember it saying KR or something. yeah i noticed that too they are like 15 dollars more for the driver side wtf?! haha but yeah the car definitly is not moving anywhere until i buy the part. i was gonna buy the shocks from the ebay link at the top of the post but it has little rust so im not sure.

you shoulda seen my car when the shock blew ha the car looked like a teeter totter one side was SLAMMED and the other was up like 4 inches ha

hahaha, Idk why these are a dealer only item, If i didnt put my old strut forks in the scrap bin at work id send them to you. The way i see it, In the long run its worth it.

Any luck with this? Did you break down and order strut forks? You can get them a bit cheaper at Hondaautomotiveparts.com. But youll have to wait for them to ship, The dealer will have them next day.

Im 99% sure its the strut fork, I mean the tokico struts cant be that far off, it should just slide right in there. Im in until you get your car on the road, haha

I had trouble getting my Koni Yellows into my stock forks. I ended up prying the opening wider with a big farking flathead screwdriver and it slipped right in.
