Default Surging at idle...help!!

My girlfriends civic has a funny idle and I can't figure it out. While idleing it wil fluctuate from 500/600 all the way to 1000 rpm, It does not do it all the time, but more frequent than not. I just changed the pcv valve also. Heres the specs on the car

1993 Civic SI Hatch
Spoon V-Tech Controller
NGK Plugs
Magnacore 8.5 wires
warm air intake
DC Sports Ceramic header
Bored out Cat
Tanabe racing medallion (cat back)
Thats all that matters right now :D

Check all your intake sensors, and also your oil and coolant levels: mine used to do that occasionally on a cold start with one of those two fluids low.

Oh, and btw...
Spoon V-Tech Controller
It's VTEC (an acronym), not V-Tech. V-Tech makes cheap cordless phones
Don't ever let someone from Spoon see that spelling next to their name, or they'll take that controller back...

Good luck,
Steve

I'm with sohc_boy... Sounds like an IAC problem... I'd expect it to start throwing codes any day now.

I've heard of people removing and cleaning the IAC, although I've never done it myself. When it happened to me it was still under warranty so Honda replaced it for free.

hmm IAC, well it's been doing it for a while and no codes. I'll have her take it in and have that replaced, it is still under warrenty. The plugs are new, less than 200 miles on them. Brand new synthetic oil. All fluids are good. What is involved with cleaning the IAC?

Just remove the IAC and spray Carb cleaner in it until it is clean then blow dry. When you are done, spray carb cleaner in your eyes and down your throat until you can't breathe. That should fix it.
